Through the end of September, a monumental show from Urs Fischer is on view at the Brant Foundation’s space in Greenwich, Connecticut. Entitled Error, the solo exhibition features works by the Swiss-born artist from the last two decades including large-scale sculptures and paintings (four of which are new paintings created digitally on an iPad). The New York-based artist’s versatile practice is on full display with pieces ranging from his famous hanging raindrop installation to a decaying life-size cabin built from loaves of bread, expandable foam, and wood. Take a look […]

Showing: Urs Fischer – “Things” @ Gagosian

With just one sculptural installation dominating Gagosian’s 511 Fifth Avenue space in Manhattan, Urs Fischer makes a bold statement about the nature of life itself. Constructed with aluminum and standing more than 10 feet tall, the life-size rhinoceros seems to absorb an assortment of everyday objects like a rollaway luggage, copy machine, car door and tires, toilet, vacuum cleaner, shovel, and laptop. With this piece, the Swiss-born artist hints that existences itself is “an accumulation, a collective gathering of physical and metaphorical baggage.” This installation is […]

With over 250 of the world’s most prestigious galleries participating and over 70,000 visitors each year, the sheer amount of art certainly cannot be encompassed in one article. Here is part I of our coverage with some snapshots of things that caught our eye like the impressive Urs Fischer installation at the Sadie Coles HQ booth mirroring the exhibition at the end of […]

Showing: Urs Fischer – “Melodrama” @ Sadie Coles HQ

Currently at the 62 Kingly Street location of Sadie Coles HQ in London, the show Melodrama features an indoor downpouring of oversized plaster raindrops by Urs Fischer. The installation on display mirrors some of the Swiss-born artist’s recent exhibition at the MOCA in Los Angeles, where he also invited his fans to participate in building some of the sculptural work. The indoor storm is suspended over nude headless reclining figures which represent “an earthbound world of disorderly, golem-like forms in contrast with the symphony of […]

Rewind: July 29 – Aug 4

Another week, another Rewind feature here on AM. In our last article, we shared the trailer for JAY Z’s new video where he performed Picasso Baby, a new track off his new album at the Pace Gallery – now we have the entire video. The long session lasted six hours where the rapper showed his appreciation for art through his lyrics, name dropping left and right. You decide whether it was a “performance art film” as it was billed, but also check out all the artists that […]

Along with a colorful backstory as to their history together and how things progressed up until the making of this video, the footage also features the two creatives explaining their thoughts behind the process as well […]
