Openings: Futura – “Future-Shock” @ Valmorbida (NYC)

Last week, AM attended the much anticipated opening of Futura’s show presented in conjunction with Valmorbida. Held at a sizable Meat Packing district cargo hold, the pop-up exhibition was the perfect location for one of the kings of the street to make a triumphant return to New York City. Boldly kicking off the art season and fashion week, the graffiti legend held nothing back as he presented a showing that was a true tour de force. As previewed in our exclusive behind the scenes look at the exhibition […]

Preview / Setup: Futura – “Future-Shock” @ Valmorbida (NYC)

As promised, AM visited Futura for a behind the scene’s look at upcoming his monster show in New York City. Presented in the same pop-up location in the meat-packing district at which Andy Valmorbida previously exhibited Retna, this massive body of work entitled Future-Shock is a proper homecoming for the New York graffiti legend. Something seemed a little different from our previous interactions with Mr. McGurr though. Perhaps this body of work may have driven him into another gear. Deliberation and focus were the words that […]

Upcoming: Futura – “Future-Shock” @ Valmorbida (NYC)

Futura may live and work in New York City, but the graffiti legend hasn’t had a solo exhibition in his hometown for over 12 years. That’s all going to change as the artist formerly known as Futura 2000 will be unveiling a large and fresh body of work with Valmorbida (who have put on great shows in the past – here & here & here) come September 6th. We look to see more of the amazing direction he showed us when we saw him in Paris. […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Diddy x Valmorbida CULO Party @ Mr. Chow

As you know Basel Miami lives for art in the day and runs on parties all night. Arguably the hottest party on South Beach during Basel Week was the CULO book party held by Sean “P Diddy” Combs and Valmorbida. A veritable who’s who list attended the event at the Mr. Chow restaurant where  Will Smith, Damien Hirst, Russell Simmons, Chris Bosh, Naomi Campbell, Adrien Brody, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, RETNA, Brett Ratner, Chris Bosh, Paris & Nikki Hilton just to name a few. The event […]

Openings: Richard Hambleton – “A Retrospective” @ Valmorbida x Phillips de Pury

AM recently caught the opening of Richard Hambleton’s A Retrospective at Phillips de Pury’s Park Avenue gallery space. The two floor location showcased a survey of Richard’s long history of working in both street and fine art with pieces dating back to 1982 on display including his classic shadow silhouettes to his more recent contemporary landscapes that he names “beautiful paintings.” Of course, much like the last opening hosted by Valmorbida, the fashion week event drew a mix of New York’s elite to catch this […]

Openings: Retna – “Hallelujah World Tour” (NYC)

Last week, AM attended the much anticipated opening for Retna’s (featured) NYC stop of his Hallelujah World Tour (previewed). Made possible by the folks at Valmorbida and Feedback the star-studded event was attended by many NYC art, fashion and entertainment notables as it led off the Fashion Week festivities. Like us, those that made it into the jam-packed opening were in for a treat as the Los Angeles-based artist took his work to another level. Large scale canvases, sculptures and of course the classic detailed works […]

Installation / Setup: Retna – “Hallelujah World Tour” (NYC)

After we ran into Retna (featured) at Mallick Williams & CO, he invited us over to hang at his upcoming show – The Hallelujah World Tour. The exhibition thrown by Valmorbida at a huge pop-up location in Manhattan will showcase a fresh body of work from the very busy street artist. Retna and crew were busy diligently prepping the space with floor to wall installations. If you liked his previous show in Miami during Basel Week, you’re going flip after seeing this new series, which […]

Viewpoints / Openings: Richard Hambleton pop-up show @ The Dairy, London

Three weeks ago, AM attended the London preview for the pop-up exhibition Richard Hambleton New York. Upon entering the venue, it wasn’t immediately clear whether we’d arrived at an art show or a fashion show. The heaving crowd and large amount of perfume in the air may have disoriented us slightly; we were left hesitating between taking pictures of the art on the walls and the clothes people were wearing. What’s certain is that the event was glamourous, and it’s been a long time since […]
