This sign with some Banksy imagery went up recently on Southwark Street in London. Speculation is that this is most likely just a publicity stunt by a company called The Bank. Although, here is another website with a similar logo… either a related company or perhaps there is still an outside chance this was taken by Banksy for an elaborate hoax.
If this is indeed the start of a viral campaign by The Bank without Banksy’s cooperation, what do you think of companies subverting artists’ images for their own uses? Fair game because street artists often subvert corporate logos and ads for their own purposes? How do you sue a company if you are supposed to be anonymous and technically your art is public, not to mention an illegal activity?
