Oos Botos Gallery in Hong Kong will be hosting “Reading Through Seeing,” José Parlá’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. The show will open on May 14th and will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog with an essay by author and New York University scholar Alexandra Chang.
At first glance, Parlá’s characteristic calligraphy meets graffiti, writing meets painting style seems like random strokes, albeit beautiful random strokes. But, closer examination and understanding of his work reveals that his paintings are a journal of his travels, thoughts, observations, memories – a stream of consciousness…
