“Ego, Addiction, and Other Bedtime Stories,” the latest body of work by Sam Flores (interviewed) opened to a packed crowd Saturday night at Subliminal Projects. The show, laid out in Flores’ storybook illustration world, revolved around the premise of the basics of everyday human struggle, controlling our inner demons and the balance between good and bad. It was great to see that Flores included something for everyone in the show, ranging from his amazing large-scale paintings, to intimate portraits of his characters, as well as a series of great drawings, some with a nice splash of color.
