Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Wynwood Walls

AM swung by Deitch Project’s Wynwood Walls early yesterday to check out the massive mural installation, still in progress. Upon arriving at the complex, we were greeted by Martha Cooper (interviewed) who was busy taking shots of Futura, Shepard Fairey (featured), Os Gemeos and Kenny Scharf as they were busy installing their massive murals. With additional pieces by Aiko, Barry McGee and Swoon (interviewed), expect Wynwood Walls to present an impressive showing later this evening. More pictures after the jump.

Preview: Multi-Plane Show @ Corey Helford

An intriguing new show is set to open on December 12th at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City featuring “Multi-Plane” art. Studio Visits/Releases: Faile – “Warriors of the Night” Print & Bronze Sculptures

Faile’s been heads-down working on some fantastic goodies that will be released TOMORROW. At Noon EST (9am PST), the collective will release some original works on paper, a new print entitled “Warriors of the Night” from their “Lost in Glimmering Shadows” series and two astounding bronze sculptures. AM visited the studio to view the goods up close and personal, and like past projects, the craftsmanship is top notch and most certainly will not disappoint. We got all the details after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Art Basel First Look

Earlier today, Art Basel Miami held it’s media preview and AM was on hand enjoy the biggest art show in North America. Basel Week Miami ’09: Kehinde Wiley x Michael Jackson

Stepping into the Deitch booth at Art Basel today, our attention was immediately drawn to the huge Michael Jackson painting by Kehinde Wiley. Apparently, Jackson contacted Kehinde a while back about a commission portrait after seeing his work at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, but Kehinde blew it off because he thought it was a joke. Preview: Dalek x 225 Forest x Hurley Event

James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed) will be in Laguna Beach tomorrow night unveiling a new site-specific painting installation he did for 225 Forest. In association with Hurley, there will be artists on hand for Q&A, food & drinks, and giveaways.  Stop by for your mid-week art fix and expect to enjoy impressive large-scale murals like the one he did for the Hurley HQ.

Openings: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Emmanuel Perrotin Private View and Dinner

Last night, the first members of the AM crew flew into Miami for our coverage for Art Basel Week and what greeted us was the opening bash at Emmanuel Perrotin. Video: Will Barras, Ericailcane, DEM – Stay Away from Light

In a continuing effort to increase European-Japanese artistic relations, the non-profit modern performing art organization, Original Cultures, has just released their latest project starring visual artists Will Barras (UK), Ericailcane (IT) and DEM (IT), as well as musical artists Om Unit (UK), Tatsuki (JP) and Tayone (IT). Over the course of four days last June in Bologna, these six artists collaborated, albeit separately, on the visual and musical aspects of this video. Streets: Blu in Lima – The Finished Wall

Looks like the massive time-intensive mural we told you he was working on has been completed by Italian street artist Blu, this time in Peru. He painstakingly covered this building with skulls and bones, turning it into his personal ossuary and then painted various figures (conquistador, priest, military, business) implied to have profited from the people of Lima.
