While wandering around Chelsea, we happened upon “The Birthday Party,” a fun show at ClampArt by New York-based artist Scott Daniel Ellison. We were not familiar with Ellison’s work but were immediately intrigued by the groupings of small illustrative paintings – dark yet humorous – with a painting style reminiscent of Marcel Dzama’s earlier painting style, but perhaps more expressionistic. Many of the works had sold, which was not surprising given the quality and the very affordable prices.

Unfortunately, Saturday was the last day of the show, so you won’t be able to see it for yourself. But now that Ellison is on our radar, we will be keeping an eye out for him in the future. In the meantime, check out all the paintings from the show, after the jump.
