Releases: “The Lost Art of Inglourious Basterds”

Upper Playground has just announced a surprise print release produced in conjunction with SA Studios and the Weinstein Company. “The Lost Art of Inglorious Basterds” will feature some of the heaviest hitters from the UP roster, including David Choe (featured), Alex Pardee, Jeremy Fish (featured) Sam Flores and many, many more. Mark Ryden is set to open his new show “The Gay 90’s” in Chelsea’s Paul Kasmin Gallery at the end of April. Back for his first solo since his “Snow Yak” show in Tokyo’s Tomio Koyama, Mark looks to take NYC by storm. Mark your calendars as it opens April 29th. Last Friday night saw the opening of Damon Soule’s solo show in Silverlake at Thinkspace Gallery. For our readers, it was also brought the glimpses from our preview to fruition with the completion of the Sleipnir sculpture installation as well as many multi-colored paintings from the artist. Recently, we teased you about KAWS’ latest show with Galería Javier López in Madrid. We now see that there are some pics giving us an inside look at the gallery space. Opening alongside Antistrot last weekend in San Francisco (covered) was the phenomenal group show, “Never a Dull Moment” at White Walls. Featuring a stellar lineup including Augustine Kofie, The Clayton Brothers (featured), Remi/Rough, and many more, this latest showing is another expertly curated exhibition by the dandy darling, iO Tillet Wright. Featuring a refreshing blend of both photography and painting, this is one show that truly lives up to it’s name. More photos after the jump.

It appears that world traveler and street artist ABOVE (interviewed) recently made it over to Cuba to put up a stencil and installation regarding the current situation in Haiti, which is only 90 miles away from Cuba. The video shows a young boy holding a Haitian flag about to set up to help his “neighbors.” Can you do the same? Here are some of the many ways you can help.

Last week, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal premiered an exhibition by Canadian artist Marcel Dzama called “For a Thousand Tricks”. From what we saw at the David Zwirner booth at Art Basel, the show looks to be a wild one. Filled with his signature illustrative style using nostalgic references contrasted by the irony of politics and eroticism, Marcel always finds very subtle ways to bash his points home.
