AM attended the opening of Shawn Barber’s (featured) solo show – “Tattooed Portraits: Chronicle” at Joshua Liner Gallery a couple weeks ago. The ever-talented tattoo master created a new series of works based on various on the tattooing paraphernalia and portraiture of his friends. The intense paintings looked radiant in our interview with Shawn and in person, and they seem to jump out at the viewers. The body of work is quite large as Shawn took it upon himself to fill the entire gallery. It’s always a unique occasion when an artist takes time to create a large enough body of work to command both areas of the Josh Liner’s Chelsea gallery space. (i.e., the openings of Matsu and Evan Hecox).
On that note, next month will mark the return of Greg Simkins to New York and he’ll also be utilizing the entire gallery. Don’t worry, we got you the inside scoop on that show too. Until then, check out all the opening night action of the Barber show after the jump.
