Video / Interviews: Jeff Koons x BMW Art Car

Continuing with our coverage of this cool project, here’s an interview of Jeff Koons discussing his contribution in designing BMW’s M3 GT2 which raced recently in the 24 Hours of Le mans endurance race in France on June 13th. In the video he talks about his inspiration for the car, his peers and his family with Blast. Openings: Pedro Matos – “Reality Show” @ Montana Shop & Gallery

Lisbon based street artist, Pedro Matos recently opened up his solo show at the Montana Shop & Gallery.  “Reality Show” featured several paintings, installations, wall murals, and what looked to be a enthusiastic crowd. Releases: Aaron Horkey’s Letterpress Series

Hi-Fructose recently gave us a peek at the new Aaron Horkey release, dropping early tomorrow (Friday, June 18th) through Dead Arts Publishing. Consisting of three older images in their original black and white format, as well as a new chess themed print, “The Rook”, the set is printed exclusively as letterpress editions and looks to have all the bells and whistles that we saw for his last Dead Man release. Openings: Art Shack @ Laguna Art Museum

Last weekend, the Laguna Art Museum opened their doors to crowds of art fans anxious to check out the newest exhibition – Art Shack. The group show included installations by artists like Mike Shine (featured), Martin Wittfooth, Kenny Scharf, Clayton Brothers (featured), and Jeff Gillette (who showed recently in LA) with a fantastic three-dimensional representation of his signature “slum” imagery. Basel Week Switzerland ’10 – Paul McCarthy @ Hauser & Wirth

Hauser & Wirth’s booth at Art Basel features a brand new body of work by highly respected artist Paul McCarthy.  The works are sculptural versions of work explored by the artist in his White Snow exhibition and features the dwarfs from, surprisingly, Snow White. They are made of various colored silicone and are unmistakeably McCarthy-esque. A set of these are rumored to be priced at $3million and a single dwarf is a more affordable $750,000. Previews: Mark Brown – “Daydreams” @ Gallery 1988 SF

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the rad hand of Mark Brown (interviewed) at work. The last time was at a solo at Gallery 1988 (LA) last year. This time he’s trekking up to No-Cal to visit Gallery1988 (SF) for another solo exhibition called “Daydreams”. The show opens this Friday, June 18th at 7pm. Highlights: Recommended openings for June 16 – June 19

Summer is in full-swing as we lead into the middle of June. Some major events are going down this week including the big debut of “Mr. Bitchin'”, Robert Williams’ new movie. Other shows on our radar include big Barry McGee & Clare Rojas museum show in Bolinas along with the opening of one of the most prestigious art fairs in the world – Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland featuring a solo showing of works from Kris Kuksi at Joshua Liner’s booth at the fair.
