Basel Week Miami ’10: MOCA (LA) x LCD Soundsystem Party @ The Raleigh

Last night, AM attended the Basel party thrown by Jeffrey Deitch and the Los Angeles MOCA with guests being ushered to their seats with cigars & table service at the hip poolside of the Raleigh Hotel. It felt like all of South Beach was trying to get into the exclusive party where guest band LCD Soundsystem performed a monster set. We had a great time catching up as many of our friends & peers in the art scene were in attendance. Catch up with all […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Robert Williams @ Tony Shafrazi

Tony Shafrazi’s booth was one of the first ones we made a beeline to when we entered the main fair at Art Basel. As advertised, our attention was dominated by Robert Williams’ newest sculpture, The Brain Trap, which we can fully reveal now. This was surrounded by other paintings from Williams along with the Diamond in a Goat’s Ass sculpture, and work by Dennis Hopper, and Ed Ruscha. More photos after the jump…

Preview: Josh Agle (SHAG) – “Ambergris” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

If you need something to look forward to once the Art Basel festivities are over with, look no further than the following weekend at Jonathan LeVine. Josh Agle (SHAG) (interviewed) will be opening his third solo exhibition at the NY gallery entitled “Ambergris” featuring over a dozen original acrylic paintings on panel as well as three large-scale giclee editions on canvas. For this new body of work, SHAG drew inspiration from his renewed interest in surfing and the ocean, although unfortunately for him, this included […]

Our friend Jeff Soto’s (featured) just sent over photos of some of his escapades in Miami with his old graffiti partner Maxx242. In town for Art Basel Week (he is painting a mural for Wynwood Walls and is listed for Primary Flight), you can be sure the Sotofish sure knows how to have a good time (see last year).  Stay away from the alligators this time! More photos after the jump…

With the release of his regal Snow Yak Print Portfolio (covered) barely in the rear view mirror, Mark Ryden has revealed details for his next release – a set of vinyl toy figures. As a follow up to the original Pink figure, a Black and White version will now be released together as a limited-edition set (only 100), elegantly distributed in a gold-embossed box along with […]

Releases: Swoon – “Zahra” Project

Our friends over at Papermonster hipped us to a new release they are working on for tomorrow (Thursday Dec. 2nd) around noon in New York. The “Zahra” project is based on one of Swoon’s (interviewed) most iconic images and will be limited to 31 variants. What makes this special is that each unique piece consists of elements of intricately cut Japanese paper “built” onto a collage of various types of papers, card stock, sketches, fabric and wood scraps. Look to Papermonster for more details tomorrow […]

After months of anticipation, the time has finally come for the curtains to be drawn back and the show to begin at this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach. The excitement was palpable, as we enjoyed scouring the grounds and taking in all the artwork lining the walls from some of the most prestigious galleries the world over. Considering this is just […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Emmanuel Perrotin Private View and Dinner

Other works from the gallery’s impressive roster of artists surrounded the AM crew as well as we enjoyed some art gazing, dinner, and mingling with other like-minded attendees to kick off our Art Basel […]

Openings: Kenny Scharf & Dearraindrops – “Hot Glue Hullabaloo” @ The Hole Gallery

AM recently attended the opening of Kenny Scharf & Dearraindrop’s Hot Glue Hullabaloo at The Hole Gallery. The collaborative show between Kenny and the Virginia Beach collective was a logical one – both are known for their creative and colorful approaches to create works outside the box. Kenny transformed the inside of The Hole into a replica of the “cosmic cavern” from his home which has the effect of transported viewers back to the happy and trippy days of the 60’s & 70’s. Derraindrop chimed […]
