In a partnership that began back in 2009 when Dalek’s (interviewed) art first graced the walls of Hurley Headquarters with a massive 10×22 ft mural, the surf inspired boutique clothing outfit and the Southern Californian contemporary artist have ever since worked together to foster creativity and positivity within their local community. This collaborative union hit a crescendo of sorts this past week, with the artist’s geometric genius taking over both Hurley’s Space Gallery and 225 Forest locations in a single week with a two-part multimedia intergalactic extravaganza, entitled Psych Optic Black Light Fuzz.
Part 1 of this two act exhibition took place last Tuesday at 225 Forest in Laguna Beach, CA, where Dalek also provided some colorful interior decoration back in 2009. The undeniable focal point of the event was a massive interactive and illuminated wall mural, embodying nostalgic Voltron-esque similarities in it’s composition. A series of fluorescent string art installation pieces also served as intriguing eye-candy, along with a selection of framed paintings more synonymous with his gallery work, yet with a more minimalistic approach and color palette. Rounding out the artistic output was a collection of exclusive clothing produced just for the event.
