Since our last studio visit (here & here) to Faile’s Brooklyn HQ prior to their Bedtime Stories exhibition, we’ve had something we wanted to get off our chest – but, because we were of course sworn to secrecy at gunpoint, we hesitated to spill the beans on a project involving their top secret Puzzle Boxes. Well, now we can breathe a sigh of relief as the collective has given us the green light. We’re happy to tell you about a unique project in which the duo have transferred not only their iconic art onto a mobile phone, but figured out a way to make you the artist.
Built around the concept of a puzzle box which they’ve partly exhibited in their wood block paintings, this special mobile app – Faile Puzzle Boxes – allows you to rotate and move each block to form your own unique “Visions of Faile”. With each of your creations comprising of 88 blocks with six different choices of imagery to mix & match, the possibilities are almost endless. This iPhone & iPad app is free to download on the Apple iTunes store here, but don’t worry if you do not have an Apple mobile device as the Faile believes in sharing their art with all. They’ve created a unique website for everyone to play with here.
We’ve also got a very special contest for all our readers after the jump.
The cool thing about creating you own unique collage with this puzzle box program is that you can save it on your iPhone or iPad. Simply close out of your completed image and click the “forward” icon and your device will email this image to yourself. Another trick is the simply click on the sleep and home button at the same time to take a photo of your puzzle box image.
As you can see from the image above, we had lots of fun playing artist. Think you can do any better? Faile certainly thinks you can so we have a little contest for you all. We have just created the official Faile fanpage on facebook and all you have to do is upload the image for your remix of one of the puzzle boxes from either the iPhone/iPad app or website by June 25th. Faile will select one winner to receive a Bunny Boy sculpture. (Only one entry per person please.)
Update: Faile has selected a winner for the contest: Andre Lovas – congratulations.
