Happy Holidays from Julia Chiang!

New York artist Julia Chiang took a moment to send out a holiday greeting. Instead of using ceramic chains to get her ideas across as she did in her Half Gallery show Security is Mostly a Superstition, she used the simple ambiance of Christmas lights to show the LOVE.

Nick Veasey is an artist from the UK who uses the power of the x-ray in his art to counter the obsession in modern society with the superficial. His method involves peeling back the external visual appearances of objects to show the inner beauty although in this case, it kind of defeats the purpose of wrapping gifts. This Branded Arts project once again shows off their impeccable technique as well as their ability to work on a large scale project with ease utilizing their unique style. His portfolio of meticulous pencil drawings is certainly a joy to browse through, featuring a predilection for animal life, skulls, and eggs which he uses to “comment upon mortality, spirituality, life, nature and the history of mankind.” Besides the intricacies evident in his graphite work, Eason also shows a comfort with working with negative space. It’s been almost a year and a half since Eric Joyner (interviewed) last had a solo show (covered). So, fans of his signature robots and donuts will be happy to hear that his next body of work, entitled It’s A Jungle Out There, will be will be on display at the Corey Helford Gallery starting January 21st. After a successful showing back in May at the prestigious Blum & Poe (covered), Zhang Huan has opened an exhibition in his home country at the Rockbund Museum in Shanghai. The versatile Chinese artist, who made his name with performance art, has focused on sculpture, like his show in Los Angeles, with this huge Confucius piece as the centerpiece. The dynamic duo known as Dabs Myla have been hitting the mural scene as of late. Not too long ago, we saw them put up some great work during Art Basel Week Miami.
