Art Focus: Boa Mistura

Boa Mistura or “Good Mixture” is made up of five Spanish artists, Arkoh, Derko, Pahg, Purone and Rdick, who have developed their work in different fields including graffiti and mural painting, to graphic design and illustration. Collectively, they meld their talents together for various endeavors like this recent Participative Urban Art project in Vila Brâsilandia, one of the favelas in São Paulo. Streets: Nick Walker (Paris)

After a successful showing during Art Basel Week Miami, it looks like Nick Walker (interviewed) has been working on some new imagery featuring his resurrected vandal. These new pieces in Paris feature his signature character working his magic on multiple walls including a collaborative mural with SheOne as part of the part of the ParisFreeWalls project curated by MSA. Update: Candice Tripp

Painter Candice Tripp has been working on the image for her next print release. As you can see, this screenprint will be generous in size and will include a subset of hand-finished editions. It will be produced through Black Rat Projects, where the UK-based artist will have a solo showing in June. She has also been working on some illustrations for a story written by Gogol Bordello. Preview: Os Gemeos – “Miss You” @ PRISM

One of the most anticipated shows early in the art season is Os Gemeos’ Miss You opening on February 25th, this Saturday night at PRISM in Los Angeles. Clare Rojas – “Piecemeal” @ Gallery Paule Anglim

The Gallery Paule Anglim in San Francisco recently had the pleasure of hosting a series of new works from Clare Rojas. For this showing entitled Piecemeal, it was apparent that the Bay Area – based artist was continuing to explore abstraction in her oeuvre of which she mixed in with paintings featuring her more obviously folk-art inspired signature look. “When Lucent Found Herakut” @ Palace Theater

On February 17th and 18th, The Palace in Downtown LA will be hosting When Lucent Found Herakut, an collaborative performance between Lucent Dossier and the German street art duo. The avant-garde circus combines live original music and vocals with circus arts, dance, aerial arts, fire performance and more to create immersive and interactive spectacles for their audiences. Coming up on the ides of March, Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) will signing her new book, Snow White (Published by Harper Design, on sale starting February 28, 2012), at the Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles. Handling this fairytale with the same loving care as she did with her Alice in the Wonderland publication, she once again brings new characters into her world, visually translating them with her special imagery and infusing some of the darker elements of the Grimm Brothers’ classic back into the fold. For those curious about the Takashi Murakami exhibition at the Qatar Museum that opened today, which included a large inflatable replica of the artist, here are some photos for you. With these shots, you can see more clearly the vision for this showing that the renowned Japanese artist had. Teaser: Vhils @ 18 Gallery (Shanghai)

It looks like Vhils (filmed) has been putting in work in Shanghai as he prepares for his show opening on March 31st at 18 Gallery (presented by Magda Danysz). Like JR before him, he’ll be introducing some of that European street aesthetic to the Chinese port city.
