Last Saturday evening, Amsterdam-based artist Niels Shoe Meulman’s (NSM) exhibition Justified Scriptures opened at 941 Geary. The works in the show meshes his “calligraffiti” with repetition and abstract elements, to create what he describes as “Abstract Expressionism with a calligraphic origin.” This exhibition reflects the road he has traveled as an artist – starting out with being a graffiti legend 80’s, to later becoming a designer/typographer who eventually starts a design company and then gets into advertising. The show also features a large installation at the entrance of the gallery as well as his signature calligraphy gracing the floors of the main space.
