While in AM was in Hong Kong a couple months ago, besides attending the KAWS solo, the Art Hong Kong fair, an event curated by Suitman, the Daydreaming with… show, and Ai Yamaguchi’s showing, we also stopped by the Gagosian Gallery to check out Andreas Gursky’s first ever exhibition in Asia. The selection of photographs combine his most recent work with earlier work while focusing on his travels in the region including shots from Japan, Thailand, China, and North Korea. Some the the first pictures he made were created in 1994 in Hong Kong, including photos of the Sha Tin racetrack, Hong Kong airport, and Shanghai Bank, the last of which appears in this exhibition. Fitting this into our busy schedule was definitely worth it and we’re sure you agree when you peruse our photo set below.
