Publications: Andrew Hem – “Dreams Towards Reality” Book

Andrew Hem (interviewed), who we last saw a year ago during his solo in Los Angeles (covered), has something new for his fans. The new book, Dreams Towards Reality, is a survey of Hem’s recent paintings but also includes “selections from his early work, graffiti, sketches, murals, sculptures and collages, as well as photographs from the extensive travel in Southeast Asia and South America that has informed his vision.” Also included is an in-depth essay by Amanda Erlanson. Streets: Blu (Italy)

Italian street savant Blu, who recently reappeared in Spain for the Desordes Creativas Festival where he made vegetarians everywhere feel just as guilty as meat-lovers, has now returned to his native country for a mural. The new work in Sardinia shows a lab experiment being conducted by a pair of large green hands, a nod to the feeling in the region that Quirra Syndrome with an unusually high cancer rate is due to the military testing in the area. Signings: Futura x Hennessy @ Mel & Rose

Prior to the massive launch party for the new Futura designed Hennessy bottle in Los Angeles, the graffiti legend held a special signing for his fans. Hosted by fine liquor retailers Mel & Rose, the event featured a meet and greet for collectors as well as associated Futura imagery. Eric Haze Nike Store Olympic Installation

With the Olympic Games in full swing, it’s time to tell you about a project Eric Haze has been developing with Nike at their 21 Mercer St. flagship store in Soho. The folks at 1xRUN just released a new print from Nathan Spoor entitled Rites of Passage in a time-released run of 40 for the next 7 days. After bringing you the works of Claudio Ethos, Vhils, and Conor Harrington from Komafest, all the way from Vardø, Norway, we now have a recap of some the other walls that we have not featured yet. David Choe in Hawaii (Part II)

Last month, we reported on a sweet new mural (jellyfish!) from David Choe’s (featured) from the islands of Hawaii (which subsequently got buffed). It looks like while there, the Facebook gangster also painted some faces and brought it along with him to various locales. Last month at Lebasse Projects, AM had the chance to visit A Life to Leave, a new solo from Eric Fortune (interviewed). Ever since we first started covering the Ohio-based painter’s work, we have known about his time-consuming and very detailed style but the new pieces really seem like he has accentuated his process (if that is possible). Coming up in September, the Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles will be unveiling new paintings and works on paper as well as site-specific installations from RETNA (featured). We last saw the MSK-affiliated writer back in March when he painted a mural at the famed Bowery and Houston location in New York and look forward to the continued evolution of his street hieroglyphics and urban calligraphy.
