Cleon Peterson‘s first UK solo exhibition is on the horizon, so get ready for some carnage Londoners! Peterson’s stories are told in a typically monochrome language, and show a world where violence reigns, interspersed with quirky black humour. His stylized bogeymen are metaphor of course for oppressors of all kinds rather than a straight up glorification of violent people carrying out violent acts. As a followup to his showing last year, Twenty-Four in San Francisco, Brett Amory (featured) brings this conceptual vision to the East Coast. Amory filmed 40 locations throughout the five boroughs of New York, each in a one-hour increment at all hours of the day and night. Currently showing at the Eric Firestone Gallery in East Hampton through July 2nd is a new exhibition from Bäst. SEAFOAM features the NY-based street artist’s gritty paintings, mixed-media, and sculptural works, many of which use found materials from his home shores of Coney Island. The pieces for this solo feature his characteristic use of layering and collaging (with bits and pieces of advertisements and magazines) as well as display his re-occuring predilection for the use of many eyes in his portraiture. This Saturday night (June 29th), the Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be presenting a two-person exhibition (cureated by Roger Gastman) from Pose and Revok. James Turrell – “Akhob” @ Loius Vuitton City Center (Las Vegas)

James Turrell, who just opened his first exhibition in a New York museum since 1980 over the weekend at the Guggenheim, also has an interesting project in Las Vegas. The American artist, whose work deals with light, color, and space, has created a permanent installation, Akhob, at the Louis Vuitton at City Center, (on the fourth floor which can be seen by appointment only). Reviving a longstanding collaborative relationship with the fashion house, the room floods your retina with high pigment fields of light. Via Hyperallergic.

Swoon Braddock Tiles Project

Street artist and humanitarian Swoon (interviewed) has recently announced a new project she is working on in North Braddock, Pennsylvania. Entitled Braddock Tiles, the venture will take place in an abandoned church which will eventually become an art-making hub in the blighted area. Their first order of business is hand-making 20,000 ceramic tiles to restore the roof of the historic building.
