On November 23rd, Seattle-based artist Mike Leavitt (interviewed) will be opening his solo show, Empire Peaks, at Jonathan LeVine Gallery where he will be debuting a brand new series of statuary. New York-based artist Clark Goolsby opens his new solo this coming weekend. The exhibition is aptly entitled Shatter, as Goolsby’s artworks are quite literally explosive. Shards and threads of found elements are combined within his pieces to create his multi-layered compositions. Capetown-based artist DALeast is opening a highly anticipated solo show with The Outsiders in Newcastle on the 22nd of November. The title of the show, Redok, comes from a Tibetan phrase meaning “hope and fear,” and represents the emotions the artist tries to show with his works. Berlin’s Circle Culture Gallery recently opened their third gallery space, in addition to its other two venues in Berlin (Mitte and Hamburg). Continuing with the themes he was exploring for a sold out show in San Diego last year, Kelsey Brookes will be presenting new work tomorrow night (November 21st) at the Judith Charles Gallery. His first solo in New York will feature abstract paintings and musings on molecular structures drawing from his scientific background, especially focusing in on drugs that affect the human consciousness. Hailing from New York, Julia Chiang immerses the Midwest this fall with her work via Kansas City’s Bill Brady Gallery. Over the weekend, Galerie Perrotin in Paris presented 20 new works from photographer Ryan McGinley. Entitled Body Loud, the selection of photos are a continuation of the New York-based artist’s signature imagery taken during summer road trips with his friends, staging and posing them in natural settings with his recognizable aesthetic. A couple weeks ago, Word to Mother (interviewed) returned to San Francisco’s White Walls (see 2012) for a new solo show. Entitled California Coming Home, the London-based artist’s fresh selection of paintings incorporated Cali imagery around his signature character based on his own persona. Danish artist, graffiti writer and illustrator, HuskMitNavn (RememberMyName in Danish), recently released a book of drawings – Offline. The title of the book is the artist’s response to the trend of our life moving into the online realm, with help of virtual communication and social networks. A book release was held on the 15th November at Schaefer Grafisk in Copenhagen where 92 original drawings featured in a book were exhibited and available.
