On August 2nd, the Marcas Gallery in Orange County will be opening Perverse Foil, a collaborative exhibition between painter Dan Quintana and photographer Karen Hsiao. Admirers of each other’s work since 2009, the two artist decided to collaborate on a show when they noticed similarities between Quintana’s figures and Hsiao’s models. After their mural collaboration for POW! WOW! Hawaii earlier this year (covered), Hawaii-based artists Kamea Hadar and Defer (seen above adding his calligraphic embellishments to Hadar’s figurative imagery) began a year-long series of collaborative walls, gallery shows and other creative projects. On this note, this Thursday, August 7th, they will be opening a show together at 1AM Gallery in San Francisco, showing a new body of mixed media works on canvas. LUDO (interviewed) is currently back home in Paris, spending long days creating new works for his upcoming London solo show at his studio, and pasting up public works on early weekend mornings. Over the past weekend, he created this double billboard piece on the streets of the French capital, taking up the advertising space while propagating his imagery. Openings: Gary Baseman – “The Door is Always Open” @ Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei

Last month, Gary Baseman (interviewed) opened a comprehensive retrospective show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei. Entitled The Door Is Always Open, the exhibition mirrored the delightful showing of the same name last year in Los Angeles (covered). Along with over 500 selected pieces, his largest collection of work in one place yet, the opening also included an art performance with his “WildGirls” with a new dance and musical composition. Releases: Audrey Kawasaki – “Ponderer” Print

Tomorrow, July 29th at 10 AM PST, Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) will be releasing a new print through Thinkspace Gallery. Entitled Ponderer, the image is taken from a painting shown with the gallery during her mini solo at SCOPE Miami last year (covered). Produced in a run of 250, the hand signed and numbered edition will be sized at 17 x 28 inches and cost $250 each. Mobstr (interviewed), who recently put on a show in London (covered), just completed a project he had been working on for over a year. Starting in May of last year, he had been counting the days a particular piece of graffiti lasted on a wall in Hackney Wick along the edge of a river, adding hashmarks for each passing day.
