Currently through January 27, Paddle8 is running an auction to benefit NURTUREart, a non-profit institute dedicated to nurturing new contemporary art by providing exhibition opportunities and resources for emerging artists, curators and public school students. Currently up for bid are works from Richard Colman, Sam Friedman, Ron English, Robert Larson, Caleb Neelon, Erik Parker, Cleon Peterson, Rime, Andrew Schoultz, and Jeff Soto (seen above).
Here is what Soto had to say about his contribution – “Warhol was one of my biggest influences coming up as a young artist. In high school I remember thinking maybe, someday, somehow I could meet him in person. Unbeknownst to me he had passed away a few years previous- this was before the internet and all the information I had was from library books. I remember feeling defeated when I found out he was gone. My painting references the 70’s and 80’s, it reminisces the past and takes inspiration from pop culture including science fiction and cinema. I work differently than Warhol, however experiencing his work and reading about his life influenced me as an artist and I still carry some of that inside.”
