Tom Sachs’ current exhibition (through July 24) is unprecedented in the 30 year history of the Noguchi Museum in that he is the first artist to be awarded a solo at the institution other than the original founder. The collection of works are the American artist’s homage to the ancient Japanese tradition of chanoyu, the ceremonial preparation and presentation of tea. Created in his signature bricolage technique, the objects Sachs has engineered together from novel materials include a tea garden (complete with bonsai tree & koi pond), tea room, and the tools of tea-making. Read more about the show here and if you are in the New York area on June 25th, Sachs will be conducing a tea ceremony at the museum.
