Today, the 9th of October, public art by Barry McGee will be unveiled (3PM–6PM) at the Moscone Center Garage in downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena neighborhood. This will be an inaugural event for Sites Unseen, a nonprofit public art organization that joined with Ratio 3 gallery for this project. The installations by the world famous SF-based artist will feature multi-colored geo panels installed in several locations on the exterior of the Moscone Center Garage, along with hand painted signature characters.
Through 2018, seven alleys in the neighborhood also have plans to go through with a similar undertaking – creating public art that celebrates San Francisco and responds both to the specific conditions of the sites as well as artistic and cultural values that engage local, national, and international communities.
The event will also feature temporary, participatory programming by local artists Ramekon O’Arwisters and Leah Rosenberg, and by Los Angeles-based artist collective Fallen Fruit.
