Coming up on March 4th, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco will be hosting a solo show from Erin M. Riley (interviewed) featuring a set of her new weavings. Entitled Simple, the fresh body of work sees the Brooklyn-based artist continue pushing the boundaries of fabric art with her portrayal of nude selfies, drug paraphernalia, car wrecks, porn screenshots, domestic violence, and other nontraditional subject matter for the medium. Although oftentimes provocative, Riley’s work is at the same time deeply personal and honest as she draws inspiration from life experiences and uses photos of herself as reference material.
