A couple weekends ago, the HOCA Foundation in Hong Kong hosted an opening reception for a new showing from Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) entitled Oh Magic Night. Taking full advantage of the 11,000 exhibition space, the Brooklyn-based artist presented 45 paintings and 10 sculptural works that have been a year in the making. The rich, vibrant, and complex compositions draw from experiences in America as well as from his Japanese ancestry both in subject matter and techniques, some quite impressive in scale. For those in town, go check it out for yourself before April 9th at Shop B104 – 305, The Pulse (No. 28 Beach Road, Repulse Bay).
