A couple weekends ago, New York City got their second dose (see Pace Primatives show) of Ryan McGinness’ work in as many months when Women: Sketches & Solutions opened at Gering Lopez. This first solo exhibition with the gallery featured pieces that demonstrated the NY-based painter, illustrator, and designer’s creative process in regards to his ongoing series the past several years on the deconstructed female form. Also, the exhibition was separated in two parts – this uptown venue where everything was entirely in black & white, as well as at the Charles Bank Gallery on the Lower East Side, where the works will be paintings derived from the process (which we will cover in a later article).
