Tomorrow night (November 18th) in Luxembourg at Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery, Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) will be unveiling a selection of new paintings and a series of steel sculptures rendered in monochromatic gold and silver. Entitled Somewhere Here, the solo from the Brooklyn-based artist features complex compositions of expressionless figures seen against “Deco-florative” patterns. Seen throughout Matsuyama’s work are artistic influences that mirror his bi-cultural experience of growing up between Japan and America including Japanese art from the Edo and Meiji eras, classical Greek and Roman statuary, French Renaissance painting, post-war contemporary art, and Abstract Expressionist painters of the New York School.
