Streets: Pejac – “WELCOME” (Nuart Aberdeen 2022)

Recently in Aberdeen, Scotland, Pejac completed his latest outdoor project which he entitled WELCOME. The whimsical and detailed work features his version of a classic doormat with a resulting piece that is more than the sum of its parts. The street intervention was placed in front of a building that the Spanish artist chose because it has hosted many charities as well as is a home for vulnerable residents facing social exclusion. Created for Nuart Aberdeen 2022, Pejac hopes the piece presents a “message of dignity, […]

Streets: Nuart Aberdeen 2020 – Lock Down Past Up

Attending every edition of the festival since the inaugural 2017, we were very much looking forward to reuniting with our Nuart family for the fourth edition of now indefinitely postponed Nuart Aberdeen 2020 Festival. But, as it was to be expected with the event and the group of people around it, simply canceling and giving up on the dream wasn’t an option. After digitally launching Nuart Journal: Issue IV earlier this month (covered), they recently released Nuart’s Lockdown, Paste Up project which enables the cast of international artists […]

Releases: Nuart Journal – “Lockdown” EDITION

Barred from their designated playground, the public space, our friends from Nuart festival recently revealed the “lockdown” edition of their efforts with an online launching of the newest issue of Nuart Journal. Originally set to be released during Nuart Aberdeen 2020, in the year that marks the 20th anniversary of the festival, the theme of this year’s event as well as publication, was “Freedom”.  As the writers, artists, critics, academics, and collaborators worked on the issue, the world was entering into a shelter at home phase caused […]

Upcoming: Nuart Aberdeen 2020

EDIT: “Following the recommendations of governmental agencies, the decision has been taken to postpone the Nuart Aberdeen festival until further notice. The safety of the public, our artists, crew, and partners is our utmost priority and we will work closely with our Nuart partners in Stavanger and Aberdeen City Council to rearrange this world-class event.” – Nuart Aberdeen Longer days and warmer temperatures among other things mean that Nuart Aberdeen is about to take place once again in Scotland’s Granite City. For the fourth consecutive […]

Videos: The Tunnels – Nuart 2019

We’ve just received this experimental movie from the Nuart Festival headquarters, put together by Ukrainian art film duo MZM Projects, the makers of the famed Imaginary City film. Using fragments of artist talks, excerpts from the news, interviews and curatorial text by festival director Martyn Reed, the filmers resampled and infused these with the lyrics from Tricky’s Brand New, You’re Retro, 1995 track (by the Bristol artist and producer from which the exhibition took its cues). Taking a different angle to capture and present the vibe during the […]

Streets: Nuart Festival 2019 (Part II)

Last Saturday marked the official opening of the 19th edition of Nuart Festival and we were happy to once again attend the festivities which this year lined up with the local Pride celebrations. Backed up by the great weather, the good vibes from the outdoors were successfully moved into the former brewery tunnels of Tou Scene where Nuart’s indoor exhibition took place. Working around this year’s theme of the festival, Brand new, you’re retro, the works presented here successfully utilized the unique opportunity for the […]

Working along this year’s theme given by the festival founder Martyn Reed, Brand […]

Streets: Nuart Aberdeen (Part III)

The other day, we teased some of the new public works that were being created during the recently held Nuart Aberdeen 2019. Today, we wanted to showcase the other seven artists whose work we’ve enjoyed during our stay. Working around the idea of telling stories, the artists uncovered less known parts of the city’s history (Vhils), revealed another side of important events (Axel Void), and referenced the unfortunate reality the city is facing (Strøk). Scattered around the city center, these pieces show the variety of […]
