Ahead of the 18th edition of Nuart Festival in Stavanger, Norway, our friends from the world-renowned street art platform just announced a new addition to their series of curated Street Art Buses. After Ernest Zacharevic (Lithuania), Add Fuel (Portugal), Martin Whatson (Norway), Hama Woods (Norway) in 2016 (covered), and M-City (Poland) in 2017 (covered), the latest artwork comes courtesy of Belgian stencil artist Jaune. Streets: Ian Strange (Stavanger, Norway)

Amid the planning for the annual Nuart festival in Stavanger and the upcoming second edition of Nuart Aberdeen, the team behind these two major public art events just finished their first project for 2018. Continuing the collaboration they started with Ian Strange back in September (covered), they’ve entered the new year with two new art billboards by the Australian artist installed in Stavanger East. Self-funded and erected in silence, these billboards are a permanent new public art platform in Stavanger. Following Strange’s ongoing body of […]

It’s been a while since we last shared some art-related videos with you in our Rewind feature so here are some that you may have missed in the last several months. Leading things off are a couple videos documenting the launch of Liu Bolin’s ready-to-wear collection at New York Fashion Week. The fashion collection inspired by the 12 photographs he created in the United States featuring his unique style of painting camouflaging himself into the scenery, something referenced by the body painting the models had […]

Interviews: Igor Ponosov

It would give a certain pleasure to Walter Benjamin if he could know that 81 years from the first publication of his The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, it would be quoted by a Russian artist in a perfectly poetic manner just right on the waters of the Norwegian port city of Stavanger. The artist, Igor Ponosov, through his Too far, Too close artwork, not only reminded us about the “aura” and “unique appearance of a distance,” but also interacted with […]

Streets: Ricky Lee Gordon, Stavanger

The biggest and arguably the most important outdoor piece of Nuart festival 2017 was the 4 story mural painted by Ricky Lee Gordon. For this large scale diptych the festival joined forces with Amnesty International, helping them spread the word about their Brave campaign. Through this campaign Amnesty is helping people that are taking enormous risks to stand up for our rights. As stated at the press conference held after the completion of the mural, it is important for these people to reach the wider audience with […]

The result is a piece that tells a story of […]

Streets: Banksy (Dover)

While the eyes of the world were focused on the results of the French presidential election, Banksy revealed his latest street piece in coastal town of Dover in the UK, just across Calais, France, where he was active 2 years ago (covered). Placed just across the city’s ferry terminal, the area of arrival for those coming from mainland Europe, the large mural shows a man chiseling off one of the stars from the EU flag. The blue flag with its 12 yellow stars has been inspiration for many […]
