Streets: Nimi (Stavanger)

Only few days before the official beginning of Nuart 2016, the team behind one of the leading street art festivals introduced their brand new Art City program. Sofia and the Mountain by NIMI was recently painted in light of Region Stavanger’s new mandate to further promote art and culture. This is the first artwork to be produced under Nuart’s self-financed initiative Art City program. Aiming to produce work outside of the festival period, it connects with the region’s Smart City programs to develop as an international ‘hub’ and destination for […]

Streets: Ella & Pitr (Norway)

After successfully painting what was billed as the world’s largest outdoor mural (covered) for last year’s NuArt Festival, French artists Ella & Pitr recently returned to Norway to create couple of new pieces in and around Stavanger. This time, they painted another giant in the center of the city, taking a tumble in a dilapidated four-story building. The harsh weather conditions and rough setting didn’t stop these dedicated artists from creating another landmark mural in Norway’s oil capital and street art mecca. After this, they continued to nearby Sola […]

Streets/Installation: Nipper “Mission Directives” (Stavanger)

It’s no secret that people behind one of the oldest street art festivals, Nuart in Stavanger, always go for the artists with the freshest ideas and something to say. So, their newest project with the Bergen-based artist Nipper, is only a continuation of their worthy legacy to bring art out of museums, galleries and public institutions onto the city streets to become part of people’s everyday lives. Mission Directives consist of small scale installations that promote the sharing economy and citizen-led communication in public space. Significantly different to the large scale murals […]

Releases: Ernest Zacharevic – “Norwegian Bubble” Cross-Stiched Pieces

You may remember earlier this year during the NuArt Festival, Ernest Zacharevic painted a mural (seen below) in Stavenger referencing the Norwegian cross-stitch with the twist being the burning house. For this holiday season, he has teamed up with his partner-in-crime, Sheena Liam, to create a series entitled Norwegian Bubble of 12 individual frames that they are making available thru email – [email protected]. Each one was used to create an animation that can be viewed here as well. Photo credit: Ian Cox (mural image). Discuss Ernest Zacharevic here.

Streets: Dotmasters // The Croydon Mural Project (London)

Recently in Croydon, Dotmasters took a couple weeks to finish two murals for the The Croydon Mural Project. Given two walls facing opposite of each other in the South London town, the British artist decided to continue his Toy Town series, first started years ago at Nuart in Stavanger, with a Ragdoll and Astroboy. The pieces seem to be a play on a well known graffiti term and are based on actual toys he owns. Photo credit: Ian Cox & the artist.
