Openings: Zevs – “Liquidated Logos” @ Art Statements Gallery (Hong Kong)

AM stopped by Zevs’ “Liquidated Logos” exhibition at the Art Statements Gallery in Hong Kong to bring you an exclusive first look at this wild show. The French street artist known for “flipping the script” on world renowned brands such as Coca-Cola and Chanel, broadened his scope to include fashion icon Louis Vuitton. Using his trademark technique of “liquidation,” Zev showed the trendy residents of Hong Kong his reinterpretation of Murakami x Louis Vuitton’s famous “multi colore” pattern among one of many iconic logos he […]

Openings: Jeff Koons – “Popeye Series” @ Serpentine Gallery

While in the UK, AM made a special visit to the Serpentine Gallery to get an exclusive viewing of “Popeye Series, Jeff Koons first major exhibition in London. The show is a sort of a retrospective in the sense that it contains a select range of artwork and sculptures from 2002 – 2009. The main focus are his classic Popeye canvases. Utilizing his signature art-historical references, he created a series of artwork around Popeye, a mild manner sailor that represented the ideals of the everyday […]

Shepard Fairey Works a Plea in Boston

After a five month ordeal with Boston authorities, Shepard Fairey’s latest drama has finally come to an end. Shepard, who was arrested on January 22 at the ICA (reported), was initially charged with over 30 counts of vandalism, tagging and destruction of property. Between April and June, the courts threw out over 21 of the charges against Shepard. This past Friday, Fairey consented to a plea deal that will dismiss the remaining 11 vandalism charges. Conditions of the plea prohibit Shepard from “carrying stickers, posters, […]

Streets: Os Gemeos Mural Replaces Keith Haring Tribute in NYC

People that have visited New York in the last year may remember seeing the Keith Haring day-glo mural recreated on the corner of Houston and Bowery in honor of the artist’s 50th birthday. Earlier this week, word circulated that the mural had been whited-out. But what was at first sad news has turned out to be good news. Guess which pair of street art twins (hint: They’re from Brazil) have stepped up and are already working this iconic spot? None other than Os Gemeos! Fresh […]

Releases: “Che Guevara” – Ernesto Yerena

Check out this little in-progress shot of the Ernesto Yerena’s “Che Guevara” piece. Pretty bad-ass take on the famed Latin American revolutionary. This original artwork is a 30″ x 44″ HPM with paper collage painted from hand cut stencils. The style may be reminiscent of Obey’s classic handiwork.  Well, maybe because Ernesto is actually Shepard Fairey’s studio assistant. He’s designed numerous collaborations with Shepard on notable Obey hits such as “Chuck D,” “Joan Jett,” and “Dia De Los Muertos.” This image will be made into a print dropping sometime […]

Openings: Nancie Yang @ Ad Hoc Art

The cool thing about Ad Hoc Art is that they always have a separate project area to showcase some not so household names that are emerging from the local art scene. Showing alongside Gaia and Imminent Disaster last Friday was Nancie Yang. Nancie’s work caught our eyes because of her great use of color and female subjects which get your attention. More after the jump.

Openings: Gaia & Imminent Disaster @ Ad Hoc Art

Last Friday, Ad Hoc Art had a great two-person solo show with Gaia and Imminent Disaster (previewed). The hippest of the Williamsburg crowd made their way out to see a great showing by these two street artists we recently saw in D.C. at the “Street/Studio” experience. For the show, Gaia brought the streets to the gallery with a “outdoor” installation to complement each of his works while Imminent Disaster flexed her muscles by showing off her intricate hand-cut stencils and thought-provoking imagery. All the photos from the opening […]

Openings: Invader & WK Interact @ Jonathan Levine

On Saturday, Invader and WK Interact drew a big crowd trying to catch a glimpse of the two hard-working artists from Europe’s Street Art scene. It was a treat to see both artists create large sized works to fill the walls of Jonathan Levine’s multi-room gallery. The works from WK conveyed much raw energy and emotion as hinted in our preview. The door installations were astonishing as each one was adorned with endless details that had to be seen to be enjoyed.  Invader was equally entertaining, […]
