Superflat master Takashi Murakami has created an eye-popping G-Shock “Frogman” watch with Casio. The cool collaboration features his trademark “Flower” emblem etched on the black metal casing and the strap features his signature on the front. The watch comes in a specially packaged and designed watch pillow also featuring his artwork. This collaboration will be limited to 300 and will be released on September 11th later this year. The cool thing about the “Annual Summer Invitational” at Jonathan LeVine Gallery is that we get to see some fresh faces that haven’t had an opportunity to grace the gallery walls before. As mentioned earlier, this year’s lineup looks promising with many faces familiar to AM readers taking stage with brand new works. Artists such as Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed), Tran Nguyen, Alex McLeod, Andrew Hem (interviewed), Becca Midwood, Evol, Judith Supine, Lola (featured), Morgan Slade, Marco Mazzoni, Nate Frizzell (featured), Oliver Warden and Oscar de las Flores […]
Before we hit up the Meat Packing District with Nick Walker (interviewed), we spent the day in Williamsburg on the corner of Roebling & Metropolitan working on another mural. This “legal” project location was graciously provided by our friends at Brooklyn Street Art. Under the sweltering heat, Nick pulled out his latest stencil “Amerikarma”. We thought it would be a simple project, but the detailed oriented Mr. Walker took this project very seriously and dedicated over 5 hours working the Bullets & Stripes mural. Check […]
Looks like Prism Gallery is about to drop some bombs on LA. This Thursday, they are hosting the opening (7-9pm) of “Come As You Are”. This group show has a line-up of heavy hitters like Os Gemeos, Kelsey Brookes, Clare Rojas, Clayton Brothers, Cleon Peterson, Susanne Melanie Berry, Richard Colman, Cheryl Dunn, Dennis Hopper, Craig Steeyk, Deanna Templeton and Ed Templeton. Have a peek at more Os Gemeos goodness after the jump.
AM recently stopped by the Joshua Liner Gallery to check out a copy of Ryan McLennan’s new book “The Cost of Comfort”. Published by Triple Stamp Press, the special edition book is actually a loose-leaf art book that contains 20 specially selected 9″x12″ giclee prints and comes encased in a custom made pine/birch wood box. Of course, each book is hand signed by Ryan himself. To get yours contact the gallery. Check out the our detailed shots after the jump.
Our friend Sonja has been hard at work putting together her fantastic video recapping the tremendous showing of “Eurotrash” featuring the works of Conor Harrington (interviewed), Micallef (interviewed), JR and Vhils at the LAzarides 90210 pop up space in Beverly Hills. It also includes rad action footage of JR, Conor and Vhils building their outdoor murals. (covered here & here) Discuss this show here. Discuss Micallef, Conor Harrington, Vhils, JR.
Summer is usually a time to relax for the art world, but the crew Jonathan LeVine Gallery is hard at work putting together their “Annual Summer Invitational” roster. The group show, which opens August 4th, will host a slew of artists new to the gallery such as Nicoletta Ceccoli, Tran Nguyen, Alex McLeod, Andrew Hem, Becca Midwood, Evol, Judith Supine, Lola, Morgan Slade, Marco Mazzoni, Nate Frizzell, Oliver Warden and Oscar de las Flores. Here’s a piece from AM favorite Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed) named “Tear Drop Pearls” […]
Nick Walker (interviewed) spent the past two weeks in New York City hitting up various spots with his special brand of stencil magic. He invited AM along on some interactive action with the local urban landscape – some legal and some well … let’s just keep it on the downlow. Scouting the Chelsea/meatpacking district for “prime & available” real estate can be tad difficult at 3 pm in the afternoon, but after a few laps at the usual haunts, we stumbled across the classic mural […]
Looks like Complex Magazine has got a nice little formula built up using great art and music again mashing up nice artistic combos of Jose Parla x T.I. (above) and REAS (Todd James) x B.o.B. (seen after the jump) for the cover of the coming August/September issue of the magazine (your choice). Complex of course aims to give you twice your bang for the buck as one can reverse the “maggie” to find another cover of Lindsay Lohan x KAWS on the flip-side. The issue will be […]
Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) has almost completed his latest vinyl project with Munky King. The incredible six-inch figure is based on his painting “Screaming for the Sunrise” from his “Hello & Goodbye” solo at LeBasse Projects last year. From what Yoskay told us, the reason it took over a year to design this figure is due to the intricate detailing that was demanded of the figure (i.e. the flames & snout). Numerous prototypes were created and the final product looks like it is worthy of being […]
