Videos: JR – “Rivages” Video

A while back, we told you about an amazing project from JR (interviewed) that saw him work his magic on a 365 meter long container ship, the CMA CGM MAGELLAN. He has since followed that up by releasing a print that had him juxtoposing another long-standing series of works with the dancers from the New York City Ballet over his time wheatpasting the vessel. Also, if you have been following his Instagram, you will have heard of the amazing story of how the ship met and rescued some refugees after leaving from the […]

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Nychos

Nychos was another street artist that made his mark during this year’s Basel Week Miami with multiple murals. This particular project on the facade of the Miami Ad School in the Wynwood features two flamingos in the Austrian artists’ s usual dissected style, a welcome addition to the neighborhood with this long necked species being one of the most recognizable in the state. Lucky students will now be able to enjoy this new mural from The Weird Crew member along with other artists who have painted on the pink walls of their […]

Previews: Kevin Peterson – “Remnants” @ Thinkspace

Tonight in Los Angeles, Kevin Peterson will be opening his second solo show (see 2012) with Thinkspace Gallery bringing with him a new body of work entitled Remnants. The Houston-based artist’s portraiture sets the innocence of his subjects and their animal companions against oftentimes desolate urban backgrounds. This contrasting overlap of two different worlds places his characters in a narrative where their courage and strength can shine through. Take a look at more preview images below… Discuss this show here. Discuss Kevin Peterson here.

Tonight in Atlanta (6-10 pm), Jose Parla will be presenting new works at the High Museum of Art entitled Segmented Realities in conduction with Imagining New Worlds with Wifredo Lam and Fahamu Pecou. On December 13th, Soey Milk will be presenting a new body of work at the Corey Helford Gallery featuring oil on canvas as well as pencil and watercolor on paper works. Entitled SINAVRO, which is a pure Korean word translated loosely to mean “to progress slowly, almost imperceptibly,” the name of the show nicely describes the growth of the young artist’s imagery and technique. Take a look at another image below… Discuss Soey Milk here.

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: The London Police

While attending this year’s Basel Week Miami, we also walked by a new mural painted by The London Police in the Wynwood district. The crisp linework and iconic LADS characters instantly marked the piece as painted by the famous duo and is a welcome addition to this hotbed of street art activity in Miami. Take a look at more detailed shots of the wall in the photos below… See all our coverage of Basel Week Miami here. Discuss The London Police here.

Previews: Lola – “The Younger” @ 80 Forty Gallery

This Saturday night (December 13th) in Los Angeles at 80 Forty Gallery, Lola will be opening the first solo we have seen from her since 2012 (covered). The new body of work entitled The Younger sounds to be deeply personal for the artist as it explores her childhood memories and documents her mental, physical, and spiritual journey through art and life. Fans will be interested to know that she has added oil painting to her repertoire and also housed each piece in antique, vintage, or hand built […]

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Faith47 x Alexis Diaz

Another wall that caught our eyes while around Wynwood Walls during Basel Week Miami was a joint effort from Faith47 and Alexis Diaz, a continuation of the The Art of Collaboration program this year (also see Shep x Cleon Peterson). The mural was stunning in person, mixing South Africa-based Faith47’s female portraiture entwined with the darker illustrative style of the Puerto Rican Diaz. Here are some shots of him putting the finishing touches on the piece as well as a look at the entire image. Full image of the wall via […]
