Preview: Sylvia Ji – “La Catrina” @ CHG Circa

In celebration of her favorite holiday, Día de los Muertos, Sylvia Ji (interviewed) will be presenting all new works tonight at CHG Circa Gallery. With a return to her familiar “Day of the Dead” imagery including masks, skulls, and religious iconagraphy, the Los Angeles-based artist also returns to a subject that she perhaps feels most passionate about and if so, it shows. The rich and intricate pieces feature a contemplative look at the festival as her characters are caught in mid-pose as they go about remembering and honoring the deceased. Discuss this show here. Streets / Videos: Herakut – The Giant Storybook Project (Part I)

It’s time to update you on something that German duo Herakut have been working on recently – The Giant Storybook Project. Acting on their long-time desires to create a children’s book, Jasmin (interviewed) and Falk have taken to the streets around the world to paint the “pages” of their story. Murals of Lily, Jay, two giants, and their adventures have already hit the walls in Kentucky, Germany, Montreal, Toronto, Rochester, and San Francisco. We’ll be taking a closer look at this project (scheduled to go through 2013) as it […]

Releases: Jeff Soto – “Seeker Friends #8: The Giver” Print

With less than two hours left on the newest timed-release from Jeff Soto (interviewed), the eighth in his Seeker Friend series of prints (see here, here, here, and here), you still have a chance to add this to your collection. And if you are really lucky, you may be the one buyer who receives the original painting The Giver (below) on which the image is taken from. Like the other ones, this print from Prints On Wood is sized at 6 x 6″ and cost $25 + shipping with $1 of every […]

Preview: Bob Dob – “Mouseketeer Army” @ La Luz de Jesus

Tonight at La Luz de Jesus, Bob Dob will be revealing his paintings for his Mouseketeer Army showing (alongside Nathan Ota’s new body of work). The 76 new pieces featuring his familiar smirking Disneyesque characters combine to form his American Flag mural (seen below),  96″ x 50″ in its realized glory. Here is the back story – “On August 6th 1970 the war began when the radical Youth International Party, aka Yippies, invaded Disneyland as a way to rebel and protest against the establishment. They were successful in […]

Upcoming: Geoff McFetridge – “Floating” @ Cooper Cole

Coming up on November 8th, the LA-based Geoff McFetridge makes a return to his native country of Canada for his first showing there. Collectively entitled Floating, the new paintings will be put on display at the Cooper Cole Gallery in Toronto where fans will be able to admire his simple style that seems to walk the line between two and three dimensional space. There will also be a limited edition silk screen released in conjunction with the show so make plans to attend if you are in the area. […]

Kickstarter: Tim Biskup – Big Butter Double Vinyl LP

Some of you may not know (including us), but painter Tim Biskup (featured) is part of a band Big Butter that he formed with his brother Mike Biskup back in the 80s. One of their favorite and most obscure recordings, BRAINSLED, was released as a cassette in 1989, but was never released on vinyl. They aim to rectify this and have gone to Kickstarter to fund this endeavor. Watch the informative video below and if interested, head over to support their project as there is some awesome […]

Streets: “Elevate South Broad Mural Projects” (Atlanta)

Last week, artists Hense, Push, Tilt (above), Sever, and Born came together to paint some new walls for the Elevate South Broad Mural Project in Atlanta. Located at South Broad Street between MLK Boulevard and Mitchell Street, the new work beautifies an area that sorely needed some love. Hopefully, we’ll continue to see more of these projects in the future. Discuss Tilt here. Discuss Push here. Photo Credit: Nick Mickolas / Graffuturism.

Happy Halloween from Dan May

One last image for you on All Hallows’ Eve before you head out for your festivities. Patch was a piece Dan May (interviewed) did earlier this month, which was also released as a print. And like this painting, AM hopes that your night includes pumpkins, costumes, and other creepy creatures.

Happy Halloween from AM!

Readers out there planning to get your costumes on for Halloween, AM would like to wish you a safe and productive evening. Remember, we always love to see art-related getups and we are sure other art fans out there will appreciate them as well. Photo va Kristy Solomon.

Happy Halloween from Camille Rose Garcia

Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) recently posted up a new painting she has been working on and we thought it would be appropriate to share it with you seeing that it is Halloween. Ghost Is Born will be on display at the Michael Kohn booth during Art Basel Miami Week in December for those who are heading out for the fairs. Take a look at more photos below as well as learning more about the inspirations behind this piece here. Discuss Camille Rose Garcia here.
