Showing: Adam Neate – “Dimensional Paintings & Editions” @ Elms Lester

Over the weekend, Elms Lesters hosted the opening for another solo (see 2011) from Adam Neate (interviewed) entitled Dimensional Paintings & Editions. The new body of work consisted of exactly that – his signature three-dimensionaly and richly textured paintings that pop right out of the wall and limited edition offerings. The almost sculptural quality of his pieces really need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Showing: Maya Hayuk – “Multi Versus” @ Cooper Cole Gallery

Earlier this month, Maya Hayuk made her return to Toronto (see 2011) for a showing at the Cooper Cole Gallery. Entiteld Multi Versus, the new body of work continues to explore the NY-based artist’s fascination with patterns, geometric shapes, and symmetry all rendered in a kaleidoscopic mix of colors.  The exhibition will run through October 6th so head over for a look-see if you are in the area. Brendan Monroe x New York Times

Those of you who are fans of Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and his work should pick up the latest copy of the New York Times. Some of his organic imagery has made it in as illustrations for an article entitled Rethinking Sleep on the cover of The Sunday Review section. You can check out the online version here if you can’t get your hands on the hard copy. Upcoming: Sylvia Ji – “La Catrina” @ CHG Circa

For those fans of  Sylvia Ji (interviewed) out there who particularly liked her “Day of the Dead” imagery, you are in luck. She will be opening a new solo on November 3rd (the Saturday right after the actual Mexican Holiday) at the new CHG Circa Gallery. Presumably, La Catrina will feature paintings from the Los Angeles-based artist centered around the masks, skulls, iconagraphy and other imagery associated with “Dia de los Muertos”. Releases: Swoon – “Ben” Edition Variant

Those looking for news from Swoon (interviewed), she has announced a new website that recently went online. Along with this, the new site will be selling new “Edition Variants” from the Brookyln-based street artist starting with different versions of her portrait of fellow artist and collaborator Ben Wolf. “Each piece begins as a miniature, screen printed version of a hand carved block print almost sixteen times its size. Upcoming: Parra – “Kind Regrets” @ HVW8 Gallery

On September 29th, Dutch artist Piet Janssen (better known as Parra) will be opening a new show at the HVW8 Gallery in Los Angeles entitled Kind Regrets. On display will be new works featuring his distinctive saturated colors and characters – namely men with beaked heads and voluptuous women. Invader x Jason deCaires Taylor Collaboration

After invading space, finally living up to his full name, Space Invader has decided to explore another frontier – the underwater realm.  With an assist from Jason deCaires Taylor, whose underwater sculptural coral reefs and photography was featured in a recent show in New York, the French street tilist has affixed his classic imagery on the side of one of the reefs in Cancun adding another exotic locale notch to his belt of conquest. Coming up on the 29th of September, Tran Nguyen (above) and Stella Im Hultberg (below) will join forces for a dual showing at the Thinkspace Gallery entitled Borrowed Memories. Nguyen will be presenting new paintings featuring her surreal and dreamy imagery, while the NY-based Hultberg will be bringing her enticing portraiture mixed in with some sculptural elements. Streets: Liqen (Spain)

Recently, the Mexico-based Liqen travelled to Galicia, Spain to get some work in. One of the resulting murals was this stunning new piece featuring the legend of the white boar, with some of his signature surreal touches thrown in.
