Teaser: KAWS – “The Nature of Need” @ Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong)

After Passing Through Hong Kong in 2010 with the debut of his now famous massive sitting companion which has now also travelled to New York, and Connecticut, KAWS will be giving his fans in Asia what they have been jonesing for – a solo show. Scheduled to open on May 15th at Galerie Perrotin, The Nature of Need will feature more of the New York based artist and designer’s colorful geometric abstractions. Releases / Publications: Fafi – “The Carmine Vault” @ Nucleus Gallery

After a signing at Colette and Galerie LJ, Parisian-based artist Fafi will be hosting a book release party at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California tomorrow night, April 16th. Along with the meet and greet, fans will be treated to mini-show of her new work as well as some limited edition items. The new publication, The Carmine Vault, is a graphic novel bringing the French graf legend’s world to life while following a character called Birtak and his desire to join the Paris Opéra Ballet. Preview: “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me” @ Copro Gallery

As a followup to a similarly themed show last year, the Copro Gallery will be hosting Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me next Saturday, April 21st. Besides artwork depicting the dark side of the iconic television series, the event will also feature unreleased music from the series, David Lynch coffee and donuts, and a video installation of the Red Room as well as many other surprises and surprise guests. Art Focus: Amanda Nedham

For this week’s Art Focus, we present to you the graphite skills of Amanda Nedham. A good representation of her work is a new collection of pieces she has produced for her Half of Less Than Ten showing that opened last week at the LE Gallery in Toronto. These new intricate drawings are inspired by Napoleon’s love letters to his wife Josephine and demonstrate her attention to details as well as her morbid take human impulses and their relationship to animals. Teaser: Barry McGee @ Gallery Paule Anglim Off-Site Space

There’s not much info out on this, but thought we would mention it for our readers in the Bay Area tonight (April 14th). Barry McGee, who’s a legend up there, will be revealing an installation at Gallery Paule Anglim’s offsite space (1717 17th Street in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill district) along with some other invited artists. The reception if 3-6 pm so head over early if you don’t want to miss it. This should a nice warmup for McGee’s upcoming PRISM showing in Los Angeles. […]

Showing: Gregory Euclide – “Nature Out There” @ Nevada Museum of Art

Currently at the Nevada Museum of Art, Gregory Euclide has a collection of works on display collectively entitled Nature Out There. Reminiscent of another artist regularly covered here on AM, Adam Neate (interviewed), Euclide has progressed his work to where there is an added dimensionality to the paintings he creates. Blending natural and found materials with his rendered scraps, the Minnesota-based artist creates encapsulated worlds where “pristine notions of landscape meet the reality of our current environment.” More photos after the jump…

Streets: David Shrigley – “How Are You Feeling?” (New York)

David Shrigley, who is currently putting on a retrospective at the Hayward Gallery in the UK, has also found time to design a new billboard next to the The High Line in New York. The piece which will remain in place through May 7th features self-reflective speech bubbles and is entitled How Are You Feeling? If you remember, John Baldessari also hit up the spot, sits alongside the elevated park at 18th Street and Tenth Avenue, back in December with his $100,000 bill. A closer look […]
