Openings: Tessar Lo – “Past, Present, Past-Present” @ Cooper Cole

A couple weeks ago, the Cooper Cole Gallery held court for attendees of Tessar Lo’s newest solo show titled Past, Present, Past-Present. The new body of work included medium to large-scale pieces featuring dream-like abstract imagery centered on his boy & animal characters and painted with rich and lush colors. Also, available will be a sculptural edition, don’t say, dansé, produced by Dark Matters in an edition of 25 for those interested. More opening photos after the jump…

Openings: George Condo @ PRISM

Last weekend, the PRISM Gallery on Sunset was the stage for a showing from influential American artist George Condo. Featuring a survey of his work including largescale paintings, sculptures, and drawings, the pieces were selected with a special emphasis on the portrait-style work of the last decade in mind. Stop by soon if you are interested in this rare assemblage of Condo’s work in Los Angeles as the short exhibition ends on April 28th to make way for Barry McGee. More photos after the jump…

Who wouldn’t want to work with street visionary and TED winner JR? The answer is probably nobody – which is why a steady stream of artists of late have been seen working on collaborations with the French photographer including Liu Bolin, Cyrcle., Jose Parla, and now David Lynch (just to name a few). Streets: Meggs (Hong Kong)

While in Hong Kong for his Journey is the Reward showing (covered) at the Above Second Gallery, Aussie street artist Meggs also took time to leave his mark on the walls around the city. In the photo above, you can see his collaboration with locals Xeme & Sinic on a phoenix inspired mural. Other notables from HK include the shutters of the gallery as well as a re-occuring ghost image that plays on the slang for non-Asian foreigners in town. More photos after the jump…

We at AM luckily had the chance to witness one of Cai Guo-Qiang’s pyrotechnic displays in person when we attended the Mystery Circle event that heralded the opening of his Sky Ladder showing (covered) at the Los Angeles MOCA. As we mentioned in our contest for a free Michael Page (interviewed) print several weeks ago (we’ll pick a winner in the next several days), the San Francisco-based painter will be opening up his latest solo show this Saturday, April 14th. Entitled Élan Vital, the new body of work to be displayed at the White Walls features Page’s exploration of the vital essence of life through his color-infused works.
