Preview: KAWS – “Down Time” @ High Museum of Art

Continuing to raise his profile with each successive museum show (see The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth), Brian Donnelly, a.k.a. KAWS, moves on to his next stop – The High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Releases: “Planet of the Apes” Print Series

For the Planet of the Apes fans out there, Mondo will be releasing a series of posters created with this classic movie franchise in mind. Artists tapped to participate include Martin Ansin, Ken Taylor, Rich Kelly, Phantom City Creative and Florian Bertmer. The release (as a set) will happen online at a random time today, January 26th and individually on January 27th. Streets: Hyuro (Spain)

Another quality mural on the streets has surfaced from Argentinian-born and now Spain-based artist Hyuro. It seems she is maintaining her strong work ethic since her solo show in Zurich at the end of last year with this new piece in Valencia, another wall we just featured last week, and some gallery work for a New York group show. Teaser: Alex Gross – “Product Placement” @ Jonathan LeVine

Almost a year and a half out from his last showing at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, LA-based artist Alex Gross (interviewed) will return with a new body of work entitled Product Placement in February. Fusing his special blend of Victorian and Asian references, this collection of paintings for New York will feature commentary on consumer culture. Openings: Daniel Arsham – “the fall, the ball, and the wall” @ OHWOW

Last Friday night, the OHWOW Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for Daniel Arsham’s the fall, the ball, and the wall. Displaying a deep interest in architecture and its relationship to the natural world, the NY-based artist’s collection of pieces for this showing can be grouped into three categories – structural interventions featuring his signature melting or dripping creations, a series of canvas works depicting buildings with elements that spell out words, and a hanging cloud of tinted spheres. Openings: Mark Jenkins – “Glazed Paradise” @ Gestalten

Last week in Berlin, Gestalten hosted installation artist Mark Jenkins’ (interviewed) first solo show in Germany, Glazed Paradise. The American artist staged his startlingly lifelike sculptural works throughout the space to the delight of showgoers as they bravely roamed the gallery area. Also rounding out the night were limited edition offerings of his famous tape sculptures, photographs of his street work, as well as a lecture presentation from Jenkins. Teaser: Jeremy Geddes @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

As we mentioned first all the way back in 2010, Jeremy Geddes (interviewed) will be introducing a new body of work at his highly anticipated solo at Jonathan LeVine later this year. The first glimpse of this New York showing is this final Cluster painting from the Melbourne-based artist, which also sounds like it might be released as a print at some point. Teaser: Amy Sol – “Numina” @ Corey Helford Gallery

It has been over a year since Amy Sol (interviewed) showed at Corey Helford Gallery where she will be returning for a solo coming up in March. This newest painting, entitled Bonfire, sees the Las Vegas-based painter continuing to hone in on a more on her central characters as well as develop more depth to her works, some of which we saw first hand at a recent group show in Los Angeles. Streets: Eine (Mexico)

Street typography connoisseur, Ben Eine, recently paid a trip to Mexico to get up on some walls. With almost a month to paint his signature lettering, the UK-based artist has done alot of damage so far with more to come. In particular, a long piece that spells out “The Bread Of The Rich Is The Struggle Of The Poor” caught out eye. See that piece and more after the jump…
