Basel Week Miami ’11: FriendsWithYou

During our sojourn into the art extravaganza in Miami known as Art Basel Week, we were happy to be able to visit the artistic duo FriendsWithYou in their home base, office, and gallery space in the Design District. The exhibition consisted of new work created especially for this annual influx of art fans and collectors, as well as some of the work that they displayed at The Hole Gallery back in June (covered). Basel Week Miami ’11: Rubell Family Collection

One of the most prestigious private showings at Art Basel Miami Week every year is from the Rubell Family Collection. This year, the group show culled from their extensive holdings was entitled American Exuberance, a reference to the fact that all artists included were American citizens and living in the States leading to a keen observation of American culture, economy and politics. As Art Basel Week Miami starts to wind down, although we still have much to show you, some of our attention turns to the shows coming up soon. One of the ones we are looking forward to opens on January 7th at Thinkspace. Basel Week Miami ’11: JR @ M Building

Yesterday, AM stopped by the M Building in Miami to photograph the newest exhibition from French photographer JR. This showing was an Art Basel Week Miami supplement to his current show at Galerie Perrotin and featured photos as well as wheatpasted found materials from his various projects in the past. As a bonus, the recent TED prize winner also added his signature eyes to the side of the building. More photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Dabs Myla

Street activity has definitely been strong during Art Basel Week Miami, and this is one of the things that sets it apart from the more prestigious original fair in Switzerland. While walking through the myriad of streets where murals were being put up, we passed by Aussie couple Dabs Myla as they painted this piece. The wall was sponsored by LRG and was almost completed by the time the sun went down yesterday. More photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Remi/Rough for Graffuturism

We passed by the Kohn Compound yesterday as we strolled through the Wynwood District in Miami and came across Remi/Rough working on one of outer walls and gate. The UK-based street artist was prepping for the In Situ show put on by Graffuturism tonight featuring post-graffiti abstraction for those interested. Art Basel Week in Miami certainly has seen their fair share of Andrew Schoultz’s work with no less than five opportunities (six if you count his outdoor mural for Primary Flight) to admire the Bay Area artist’s work. Showing with Marx & Zavattero, Mark Moore Gallery (more on this booth later), Morgan Lehman Gallery, Jerome Zodo Contemporary, as well as selling out all 30 prints (seen above) of his gold American flags famously with Miami-based nonprofit organization Locust Projects, it certainly has been a busy and productive week […]

Teaser: Ray Caesar – “it started with eve…” launch @ Stephen Webster

Tonight at Stephen Webster in Beverly Hills in their 2nd floor gallery space, an exhibited curated by Corey Helford Gallery will open featuring the art work of Ray Caesar (interviewed). The murder mystery themed evening will also feature a launch of the jewelry line’s it started with eve... collection, a set of rings inspired by histories of the most villainous sirens as well as an installation from Cameron Silver. Since we are covering Art Basel Week Miami right now, this week’s new artist for our Art Focus is from the PULSE Art Fair showing at the Rena Bransten Gallery booth. Tracey Snelling is a Bay Area artist who creates mixed media installations incorporating photographs, miniature constructions of buildings or towns, video screens, and projections. A couple nights ago, the Primary Projects space in Miami’s Design District hosted Here Lies Georges Wildenstein, a group show featuring Marc Bijl, Retna, Michael Vasquez, Miru Kim, Cleon Peterson, George Sánchez-Calderón, Manny Prieres, Andrew Nigon, Scott Shannon, Christina Pettersson, Shelter Serra, How & Nosm, Kenton Parker, Cole Sternberg, Edouard Nardon, & Jel Martine.
