Openings: Miss Van – “Muses” @ INOPERAbLE

French street femme fatale Miss Van just opened a show in Vienna featuring her sexy “poupées” and their animal friends. Featuring small to medium pieces, the new work filled the INOPERAbLE Gallery with her Muses which were admired by an adoring crowd. Unfortunately no murals were painted due to the weather but don’t rule it out for a later date. More photos via the gallery after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11: NADA Fair

AM stopped by the NADA yesterday which was held at the Deauville Beach Resort in Miami. This particular art fair’s mission is to showcase young and upcoming galleries and artists in the contemporary art scene and was held in three separate sections. This cool whip monster sculpture (seen above) in particular was pretty entertaining. More photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Eine & ROA for DIY // MIA

While on our way to hit up a plethora of shows associated with Art Basel Week Miami last night at the Design District, we passed by the The Living Room installation. The two-wall open structure is a whimsical and out-of-scale replica of a living room at an intersection that had been rundown as of late, but has been revitalized for this year’s art extravaganza with murals from Ben Eine and ROA for the three day music and art event  DIY // MIA sponsored by AE District Gallery, AlmostFamous.com, […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Seonna Hong @ Lebasse Projects / PULSE

One of the first things that caught our eye as we strolled through PULSE in Miami was the new works from Seonna Hong at the Lebasse Projects booth. She put together a nice installation of the paint chip works as well as included some larger bear paintings for this showing. Interestingly enough, she worked some text into some of the pieces. More photos after the jump…

Reprising some of his colorful and loose outdoor works for the indoor setting with paintings and wall murals, the Barcelona-based artist showed us glimpses of the reasons behind his rising popularity. More photos after the jump by Graffart…

Basel Week Miami ’11: Underbelly Show

Last night, AM attended the opening of the Underbelly show in Miami featuring an impressive lineup of artists who all have participated in the surreptitious underground street art and graffiti project in New York. Not only did each artist contribute a quality work to the show, most of them were large scale. Anchoring the exhibition near the entrance was a wall of flatscreen TV’s all simultaneously playing high speed timelapse loops of the artists as they worked on murals for the project. Many more photos […]

Releases: Mark Ryden – “Pinxit” Book

Today marks the release by Taschen of Mark Ryden’s Pinxit (the title is a playful references to both the preponderance of pink in his work and the Latin word meaning “he painted this,” which artists like Ingres and Rubens once appended after their signatures according to Erratic Phenomena). The publication is the most comprehensive survey of Ryden’s 20 year career and works ever and if the book to have if you are a fan although it will set you back a pretty penny. Basel Week Miami ’11: Art Basel – First Look (Part II)

With so much eye candy at the main fair, we had to split out photos into two helpings. Headlining this second set are these clusters from Bay Area legend Barry McGee at the Cheim & Read booth featuring some abstract representations of spray cans arranged in a new way with some novel patterns. Other strong pieces seen were a unique piece from Mark Ryden utilizing a new technique, an oil from Lisa Yuskavage, various shiny objects from Anish Kapoor, and much more. See it all […]
