Hush x Complex – Style and Design Project

Have you ever wondered how a painting or sculpture from your favorite artist would look if it was brought to life?  Well, fans of Hush (interviewed) got sort of an idea when he recently collaborated with Complex on a project where they paired four artists up with models to create “four unique fusions of style and sex appeal” for their annual Style and Design package.  Nice to see he got a little diversion after hitting up LA and SF with a couple solo shows earlier […]

Preview: Mode 2 – “Reality, Fantasy, And The Web” @ Lazarides (Newcastle)

Lazarides will be opening a show tonight, August 21st, at their Newcastle location, featuring influential street artist Mode 2.  Returning to the UK from a “self-exile” in Paris, he will be exhibiting new paintings and installations, as well as a selection of sketches on display on ground floor of the gallery.  Judging from these preview images from Ian Cox, it’s shaping up to be a pretty good show.  More images after the jump…

Releases: Brandi Milne – Humpty Dumpty Plushes

Brandi Milne recently put up these hand-crafter and hand-painted Humpty Dumpty plushes up for sale on her website.  She states that she was inspired by “the character Humpty Dumpty and Alice In Wonderland’s Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum” when creating these.  She is currently hard at work on her next solo show scheduled for June 2010. Some more images after the jump…

Update: Josh Keyes – “Natural Selection” @ Swarm Gallery

Remember how there was a fourth painting yet to be revealed at the time Josh Keyes‘ (interviewed) show opened at Swarm Gallery (covered). Well, here it is – “Drifting.” Now, we all have to wait until probably January before we can get our next Keyes fix when he opens his show at Jonathan Levine entitled “Kaleidoscope.” Discuss this show here. Video: Word to Mother, Hera, & Chris Stain @ Nuart 2008

Our friend Ian Cox, whose photos we referenced for our preview of this year’s Nuart Festival, also recently put together a time-lapse video of Word to Mother (interviewed) putting up a piece from Nuart 2008. In the video, you can also see a nice Hera (interviewed) piece on the left. Check out the time-lapse video for the Hera piece as well as a Chris Stain (interviewed) video after the jump…

The 36″ x 24″ finished piece entitled “The Good Soul” will be auctioned off via Ebay with all proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society in memory of Jensen’s (owner of g1988) late father, and huge Greg Simkins fan, Lawrence Karp. A couple more images after the jump.

Releases: Ray Caesar – “French Kiss”

Ray Caesar is one of the rare digital artists out there that gets props when compared to the more traditional artists. This is not surprising to anyone who has ever seen his fantastic work in person like this newest piece from him entitled “French Kiss.” These will be offered as an edition of 20 and measure 32″ x 42″ for those interested. Preview: Kris Lewis @ David B. Smith Gallery

After spending his creative energy curating the fantastic “Worlds on Fire” show for the Grammys in February, Kris Lewis is getting set to open his own solo show in Denver.  Opening this Saturday, August 22nd at the David B. Smith Gallery, Kris’ new show will feature about 15 new paintings. More images after the jump.

Streets: Invader – “Low Fidelity” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

As expected, Invader took his time to visit buildings around the area with his tile work, coinciding with the opening of his solo at Lazarides (covered).  From the look of these new London pieces, he seems to be transitioning to some larger scale work, perhaps making it harder for “collectors” to take them off the streets.  Don’t know how long he is in town for or whether these went up before or after the opening but more and more seem to be popping up. More […]
