Check out this video documenting the fascinating process of creating 200 unique customized and hand-finished screenprints, where he continues exploring his triangular technique (good example of this was his piece for […]

Preview: Kehinde Wiley – “Black Light” @ Deitch Projects

New York contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley, known for painting urban African American males in classical poses taken from art history, is set to open a new show at Deitch Projects next weekend. The show opening September 3rd, entitled “Black Light,” is an exhibition of 17 photographs most likely taken from the similarly named book from Powerhouse Books. Teaser: Luke Chueh – “Inferno” @ Gallery 1988 (LA)

How very appropriate it is for Luke Chueh (interviewed) to base his next show on Dante’s “Inferno” and the 9 rings of hell in the famous Italian poet’s masterpiece.  With much of his career body of work dealing with the physical and mental torture (albeit often comical) of his poor animals, it was not much of a jump to imagine them all in a personal hell that Luke has created for them. Luke sent us a picture of three of his large paintings for the […]

Teaser: Kris Kuksi – “Beast Anthology” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

AM just saw the one of the pieces from Kris Kuksi for his upcoming solo show at Joshua Liner Gallery and wanted to share it immediately with our readers.  This piece is entitled “The Temptation of St. Anthony,” which refers to the temptations faced by Saint Anthony the Great during his times in the Egyptian desert (a common subject in art and literature – probably the two of the most well-known, for us at least, were by Hieronymus Bosch and Salvador Dalí). We can’t wait […]
