Intrepid photographer Romanywg recently captured photos of hardworking french street artists C215 and Bruno Leyval getting up near the Cargo Club in London’s East End. They worked on adjacent walls painting & stenciling some amazing Tibetan scene murals. In progress pics as well as shots of the completed walls after the jump.

Andy Warhol @ Nassau County Museum of Art

The Nassau County Museum of Art opened an exhibition yesterday of Andy Warhol screenprints. The show runs through May 26 showcasing some of Warhol’s classic pop subjects including Marilyn Monroe, Mao Tse-Tung, Superman, Campbell Soup Cans, Dollar Signs and Martha Graham/The Kick. Plenty of time left to plan a day trip from New York City if you are in the area… Via Artdaily.

Vladamir Putin – 1.1 Million

Is this the ultimate celebrity art? Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin´s painting sold for $1.1 million at a charity auction recently, making it the most expensive painting ever sold in Russia. He supposedly only spent 20 minutes on it and had an artist paint in the rest. Russian celebrities were each given a letter of the alphabet as a theme and Putin received the Russian letter “u,” for “uzor” (pattern). Ironically as reported, he painted it just days before Russia turned off Europe’s gas supply […]

Openings: Know Hope @ Ad Hoc Art

Know Hope’s show (previewed) at Ad Hoc Art opened last weekend in NY to a pretty good crowd.  As with most of his shows, the centerpiece was an installation, vividly bringing to life the imagery of his art.  His well-known grappling and intertwined characters were again the stars in this body of work that seemed to have a seafaring theme. See more pics after the jump.

Teaser: Luke Chueh @ Corey Helford

Luke Chueh will be back in March with his first solo show for 2009 at Corey Helford Gallery.  His show entitled “From Light Cometh Darkness” will feature over 20 new paintings and drawings that will no doubt include some of his bears in various dark, comical, depressing, or satirical situations.  His friend Thomas Han will be showing concurrently in Corey Helford’s loft area. Discuss Luke Chueh here.

Teaser: Audrey Kawasaki @ Outre Gallery

Audrey Kawasaki will be opening a show in Australia at Outre Gallery on February 13th. This will mainly be an exhibition of sold out prints (APs) with only one new original (in progress seen above). There will also be a new print scheduled for released as well. For our readers down under who want more of Audrey, look for a larger show in 2010 that should presumably include more originals. Discuss show here. Discuss Audrey Kawasaki here.

Black Rat Press @ the London Art Fair

As previously mentioned, Black Rat Press exhibited at the London Art Fair where they showed works by Swoon, Matt Small, Lucas Price, Asha Zero, Brian Adam Douglas, D*Face and Nick Walker.  As expected, Walker’s print sold out, but there were actually some pretty good originals available.  In particular, Swoon’s and Matt Small’s pieces were quite strong.  Take a look after the jump.

Andrew Schoultz & AJ Fosik @ Space 1026

Andrew Schoultz and AJ Fosik opened up a pretty amazing show full of complex installations last weekend at Space 1026 in Philadelphia. We have never really envisioned their work interacting but the kinetic energy of Schoultz’s frenzied imagery blends nicely with the sculpts of Fosik’s beasts and folklore – perhaps it’s the complementary color palettes. Not to mention, the cryptic letterings of Fosik combines with Schoultz’s penchant for incorporating the symbolism of U.S. currency to form a body of work that hints of conspiracies and […]
