For those who haven’t seen Jeff Soto’s show “Turning in Circles” yet, here’s a good opportunity to stop by for a visit. Dan May’s show “Slow Collison” opens this Saturday, February 7th at Copro Nason.Â His lush environments and monsters are as eye catching now as they were when we first saw his work on flickr several years ago.Â Of course, his work has evolved and become more rich with fantastic compositiona and “story-telling.”Â Dan takes some time to answer some questions for us about his current show as well as plans for the rest of 2009.Â Check the interview and some preview pics after the jump.

Openings: Worlds on Fire (Grammy Show)

Art and music collided last night with the invite-only opening of the “Worlds on Fire” show (previewed) held at the Pacific Electric Lofts’ building in downtown LA.Â The week-long exhibit features portraits of 2009 Grammy nominees painted and interpreted by some of the top artists in the low brow and pop surrealist scene. Openings: Mark Dean Veca @ UAG – UCSD

Mark Dean Veca, who we just interviewed a couple days ago, opened up his show last night at the UAG gallery.Â We had only seen the nice in-progress setup previously, but the finished installation looks even more amazing.Â The show runs till March 15th, so stop by for a look if you have a chance.Â As mentioned before, he will also doing an “artist talk” on February 26th if you are interested in attending.Â We gathered some images for you to peruse after the jump.

Google is celebrating influential American abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock’s birthday today with their ever changing icon at the top of their search page. We wonder what percentage of people who use google everyday actually recognized the reference.
