BMW Art Cars & LACMA Roundup

We stopped by the LACMA with some out-of-town visitors last weekend and were pleasantly surprised to see some old-school custom car collaborations between BMW and some familiar names. What’s that saying… “so old, it’s new?” The Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol painted BMW Art Cars, a series starting in the 70’s, will be on display in the BP Grand Entrance and can be seen free of admission. A little late notice on our part though, as today is the final day […]

Preview: Camille Rose Garcia @ SCOPE NY

The magical work of Camille Rose Garcia will be the center of attention for Jonathan Levine’s booth at this years SCOPE art fair in New York. They will be exhibiting new paintings, drawings, and sculpture from CRG as part of a site-specific installation, including a custom wallpaper, designed by the artist herself. Jonathan Levine is also putting together a lecture and discussion panel on March 8th entitled “Private Property, Public Ideas: Street Art in Transition” along with a special screening of the movie “Bomb-It.”  Participants […]

Update: Josh Keyes

Josh Keyes recently revealed two new paintings he has completed entitled “Flutter” and “Scorch.” With his participation in the SCOPE NY art fair (which AM will cover) in March and his upcoming solo in May at David B. Smith Gallery, we suspect these will make their appearance at one of these venues. With his predilection for creating works in series, look for him to explore these themes a little more as he fleshes out his new body of work. Discuss Josh Keyes here.

Preview/Interviews: Natalia Fabia @ Corey Helford

Natalia Fabia’s show at Corey Helford “Hooker DreamEscapes” is opening tomorrow (Feb 21st) in the Culver City art district. Her new body of work as evidenced by the title features plenty of her favorite muses – Hookers! Well, they actually represent any “strong, independent, talented, hot chick” to her. She talks about this as well as her experience at the Art Center, thoughts on painting Pink for the Worlds on Fire show and more in the interview after the jump…

Marcel Dzama & Shepard Fairey x N.A.S.A.

Marcel Dzama recently collaborated with David Byrne on this video from N.A.S.A. featuring the track “The People Tree.” This isn’t Marcel’s first foray into the music field as he has done album cover work in the past for artists such as They Might Be Giants and Beck. If you remember, N.A.S.A. collaborated with Shepard Fairey on a previous music video “Money” (seen below). We wonder what other artists they have lined up for the future. Partially via Boing Boing thru TWBE. Check out other music […]

Jeff Soto Time-Lapse

Jeff Soto recently posted up a time-lapse video on his blog of him painting “The Corruption of Mankind,” one of his largest pieces from his show at the Riverside Art Museum. It’s always interesting to get a glimpse of an artist’s creative process. Discuss Jeff Soto here.

On the Streets: Blu x Swoon – Barcelona

Italian street artist extraordinaire Blu recently was invited to speak in Barcelona at the fifth annual “Influencers” festival hosted by the Center of Contemporary Culture (CCCB).  He was also commissioned to put up this fantastic mural of a giant shark made of money devouring old painted slogans as well as bearing down on a Swoon wheatpaste (although we are not sure if this was a collaboration). Blu’s presentation (video here – knowing Spanish/Italian may be helpful) was well received, as well as comical as he […]

Creative Process: Stella Im Hultberg

Stella Im Hultberg’s show “The Insentient World” (teased) is opening tonight at Roq La Rue showing concurrently with Andrew Hem’s (interviewed) show.  Her show will feature approximately six canvas paintings and six tea-stained paper pieces.  She took a little time out from her busy schedule to work on a creative process feature for our readers focusing on one of her canvas works (12″ x 14″) entitled “Nobody and Everyone Else.”  Take a look after the jump.
