Upcoming: Dave Kinsey – “Momentary Bliss” @ New Image Art

On January 14th, Dave Kinsey (featured) will be opening a solo show at New Image Art in Los Angeles entitled Momentary Bliss. The new work is heavily influenced by his time in the Sierra Nevada Mountains before relocating back to a downtown Los Angeles studio. Kinsey’s recent paintings are increasingly more abstract compositions of textures and forms with a hint of the figurative. Discuss Dave Kinsey here.

Brendan Monroe x Equinox Hollywood Murals

Those who are lucky enough to be able to visit the iconic new Hollywood location of Equinox fitness clubs will be greeted by three new murals from Brendan Monroe (interviewed). Located at 1550 North Vine Street, the gym features three walls painted over with some of the signature abstract and patterned imagery from California-based artist. Releases: Tiffany Bozic – “Flora and Fawn” Print

Painter Tiffany Bozic recently released a new print entitled Flora and Fawn on her webstore. Produced in an edition of 150, the image area of the artwork measures roughly 13.5″ x 18″ with a total size of 16″ X 20″ if the border is included. Basel Week Miami ’16: Andrew Schoultz Skate Park @ Juxtapoz Clubhouse

After bringing you a look at the goodness inside of the Juxtapoz Clubhouse during Basel Week Miami, we now have something else to share from outside that fans enjoyed along with a large mural by Shepard Fairey (covered). Andrew Schoultz spent his time painting his imagery all over a skate park that was a welcome addition to Miami’s Wynwood district. Saddened by the recent deaths of Carrie Fisher and her mother, Alex Garant and Spoke Art have teamed up to release a print to benefit the International Bipolar Foundation. With 100% of the profits donated to help those with the disease (including the late actress), the print release features an image of Princess Leia (with Garant’s characteristic double-exposed treatment), Fisher’s most famous role. Openings: Fuco Ueda – “Odd-Eye” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last month, Thinkspace Gallery hosted an exhibition from Fuco Ueda entitled Odd-Eye, her second solo (see 2014) with the Culver City showspace. The beautifully rendered new works from the Japanese artist are mainly created on canvas with a few smaller pieces on paper, all featuring her characteristic lush imagery and palette. Surrounded by reoccurring motifs and symbols of death (such as chrysanthemum flowers & skeletal elements) as well as disquieting creatures, her flushed girls seem to be trapped in some sort of lurid dream world. RETNA x Jossie Ochoa Body Paint Project

Working with his muse, Jossie Ochoa, RETNA (featured) recently completed another project with the Guatemalan American model. With video and photography provided by The Golden Kingdom, the graffiti writer utilized his urban script for a body painting session. This was not their first collaboration as she was featured on RETNA’s billboards in West Hollywood, San Vicente and Sunset back in 2014 if you remember. Upcoming: Snarkitecture / Daniel Arsham – “The Beach” @ Sydney Festival

For this year’s Sydney Festival, Cofounders Alex Mustonen and Daniel Arsham from Snarkitechture will be bringing their The Beach installation (see last year) back at the The Cutaway at Bangaroo Reserve. The 60m x 23m ball pit may be the world’s largest and will feature 1.1 million balls this time, an ocean of monochromatic fun for visitors to dive into. Head over here for more information.
