Upcoming: KAWS @ Galerie Perrotin (Seoul)

Coming up this weekend, KAWS will be presenting new works to his fans in Korea at Galerie Perrotin’s new outpost. The newly opened space (1F 5 PALPAN-GIL, JONGNO-GU) will be the setting for the New York-based artist’s first visit to Seoul City. Look for more paintings featuring his continually evolving abstractions of his favorite cartoon, comic, and pop culture inspired characters. The show runs from June 2nd to August 27th. Previews: Jim McKenzie – “Lost Magic” @ Copro Gallery

On June 4th, Copro Gallery in Los Angeles will be presenting the debut solo show from artist and animation commercial director Jim McKenzie. Releases: Patrick Martinez – “Po-lice Misconduct Misprint” Prints

Patrick Martinez’s recent works includes what he calls the Po-lice Misconduct Misprint series, a riff on the Pee Chee Folders of the ’70s and ’80s. The paintings evoke a feeling of nostalgia as we think back to our early school days but when examined closely, the viewer realizes that the Los Angeles-based artist has replaced the high school-age students engaged in sports or other activities with images of police brutality and portraits of victims we have all seen in the news. Showing: RETNA // “The Future of the Past: Mummies and Medicine” @ Legion of Honor

Currently at the Legion of Honor, The Future of the Past: Mummies and Medicine is showing through August 2018 featuring RETNA’s (featured) distinct script in the background. The Los Angeles-based graffiti artist’s work has always been compared to and influenced in part by Egyptian hieroglyphs, so his career has come a full circle now with an invitation by the museum in San Francisco to paint the walls surrounding the exhibition. Os Gemeos Designs Felipe Massa Helmet

For this year’s Monoco GP, Os Gemeos have designed a special helmet for fellow countryman and Formula One driver Felipe Massa. With the relaxing of the rule forcing drivers to keep a single helmet design for a whole year (now allowed one special set of colors once per season), the Brazilian racer took advantage and asked the artistic duo to create the imagery for the new headwear including a painted version of his wife and son on the top. Upcoming: Edwin Ushiro – “Capturing What Still Glimmers” @ Giant Robot 2

On June 18th, Edwin Ushiro (interviewed) will be opening a new solo show at Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles. Just in time for summer, Capturing What Still Glimmers features nostalgic imagery from the artist’s youth growing up in Hawaii. Utilizing a unique process and technique, the locally-based painter’s work glows with an ethereal translucent quality that must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Discuss this show here. Streets: JR @ The Louvre (Part II)

After a first look at a new intervention at the Louvre from JR (interviewed) earlier this week, here are photos of the completed project. Pasting over the iconic pyramid in his signature technique was a time-consuming undertaking, but the impressive result is a testament to the French street artist’s artistic vision.
