Previews: Reginald Sylvester II – “Reaching For Heaven” @ Pace Prints

Tonight, Pace Prints will be unveiling a new body of work by artist Reginald Sylvester II. Entitled Reaching for Heaven, this series calls on his talent of using oil sticks & acrylic paint to create densely packed abstractions. Through bold colors, black outlines and child-like scribbles, Sylvester builds his visual vocabulary and with it, creates compositions that invoke the perpetual stimulation of today’s digital life style. This exhibition approaches the idea of humanity in an age where identity is synonymous with the selfie.

On March 3rd, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco will be opening a two person show entitled ANEW from Erin M. Riley (interviewed) and Lucien Shapiro. Although the pairing seems odd at first – when you delve a little deeper, you will see that both artists create personally meaningful work though unconventional methods. Releases: Josh Keyes – “Afternoon of a Faun” Print

Earlier today, Josh Keyes (interviewed) continued his longstanding collaboration with Tiny Showcase by releasing another print. Afternoon of a Faun is a 12″ tall by 18″ wide time limited edition and will be available from March 1st until March 8th (noon Eastern Time). Priced at $55, each sale will contribute $15 to the Nature Conservancy which works toward protecting nature, for people today and future generations. As we previously reported, Think Tank Gallery is currently has on view a large installation and two man show Break Bread, which Includes new works by Baker’s Son and Scott Hove. The exhibition will stay open until March 14th and is a definite must see if you’re in the area. For those who missed it, KAWS recently collaborated with designer Mira Mikati on several different varsity jackets. Featuring the cartoon character based imagery from the Brooklyn-based artist, the jackets from Mikati are now available from colette for €1100. On 3rd of March Maya Hayuk will be back at Alice Gallery in Brussels to open her third solo with the gallery – Grow Room. From the few preview images we’ve seen, the show will include more complex compositions from the Brooklyn-based artist.
