Basel Week Miami ’15: Art Basel Miami Beach // Nova Sector

The Art Basel fair is known for presenting the best of the best in established blue chip international art. It is also a place where collectors, curators, and enthusiasts can also discover new artists as well. The Nova sector of the fair is designed for galleries to present one, two or three artists showing works created within the last three years. It features strong associations and fresh, never-before-seen pieces from the artist’s studio to each gallery’s booths. Galleries and artists exhibiting in this sector include Michael Jon […]

Basel Week Miami ’15: Art Basel Miami Beach // Positions Sector

One of the biggest criticisms of art fairs leveled by art lovers is that it is not the proper venue for properly conceived and realized artist exhibitions. Fair booths typically contain a collection of discrete works that are made to be sold and consumed. Art Basel Miami Beach’s Positions sector is the response to this criticism. The galleries that show in this part of the fair are given a platform for a single artist to present one major project. This includes installations or exhibitions that include multiple works […]

Participants in the pop-up show included Wayne White, Josh Sperling, Alfred Steiner, Greg Lamarche, Michael Kagan, Erin M. Riley, Evan Hecox, Riusuke Fukahori, Paul Wackers, Jim […]

Previews: Jan Kalab – “Tension” @ BC Gallery

On the 10th of December, BC Gallery in Berlin will be opening a solo show by Czech artist Jan Kalab (interviewed). Tension will include a new series of his recognizable round canvases as well as a large sculpture following along the lines of his circle inspired works. The title of the show comes from the structure of his paintings, which are based on a perfect circle. And when using a limited color palete, these pieces carry a strong feeling of tension. With border colors clashing against the […]
